I am from Texas. I was born and raised here. I'm not your stereotypical Texan. I'm a staunch Democrat, and I loathe George Bush. I like Barack Obama, and I despise country music. Anyway, my state ranks in the bottom five in education. We have the highest rate of citizens without medical insurance and high school dropouts. Within the last year, New Mexico surpassed us in the teenage pregnancy rates. Many Texans love to brag about our state being a utopia. Truth be told, we have a deluge of socioeconomic problems. Do you think George W. Bush has scarred the image and credibility of Texas permanently? Why doesn't Texas want to be a team player? If it didn't want to be a part of the Union why did it sign the treaty to be annexed in 1845?

From Florida, huh? Well I guess that doesn't surprise me. That's what happens whenever you have a Bush govern your state.

I don't think any of this is serious. I think some politicians in Texas are talking this way for political gain. Everyone knows that secession (even if it were possible without a second Civil War) isn't in the state's interest. |

Seriously, you might want to consider stats that don't include illegal aliens in them. How can you see the facts of your state and think like you do. Our state is better off than most. We do have problems like you mentioned but 2 of your statements are inflated. We created 70% of the NATIONS jobs between Nov. 07 and Nov. 08. Our way of doing this is just better, if you want to improve education and health care kick the federal government out. All they have ever done is increase dependence. |

Texas is on a par with the stupid state of Florida, which is where I live. We have 9 zillion houses in foreclosure, terrible unemployment problems, and schools to which I would not send my cat. Yet we are building a new stadium for the Red Sox to do their spring training, even though they already have one. Go figure! |
