I have a cell phone (palm centro to be exact) and the first time I used emergency services was a few months ago and my phone would beep after 20 sec. and would hang up.Luckily I was able to give my address after 6 calls.Emergency services got there so I didn't really pay attention after that.Last week I needed to use emergency services again and same situation as the previous time so my husband was home this time and I grabbed his cell phone and called 911.I called Sprint and they told me it would take 3 days for them to investigate.Is it illegal for them to have me like this without 911 services? Since first incident the ambulance even went to the wrong house considering I cold only talk for 15 secs. in each call

911 service is provided free in every cell company, because the FCC regulates and operates this service through your cell phone provider. It does not mean that you Palm Centro has 911 but it has access to it.
Check the settings in your phone to make sure you are using the correct setting for 911 to locate you. There is an icon that gives away your position to 911 regardless if you speak or not.
If you ever have a problem with 911 you can do this:
FIRST Subject: Emergency

That's weird, because usually 911 calls 'override' the towers - meaning that you can call 911 on a cell phone even if you're not paying for a cell phone service. |

Yes it is illegal for any phone company to not provide 911.
If I am in a car wreck, I call 911 and I can't get help, and I die because of it, then my family will get a nice nice check.
*EDIT
Cell phones will not automatically determine your house address, you will have to give your address independently over the phone, but if you can't reach the 911 services, thats another problem in general.
Cell phone companies don't have to provide your address to your home on a 911 switch board. |
