Is it illegal for a "parent" to keep a legal adult (18 year old 'child') against his/her will?

Is it illegal for a "parent" to keep a legal adult (18 year old 'child') against his/her will?

When I was 17, I told my mom I wanted to live with my dad. She then intimidated me and said "YOU'RE NOT LIVING WITH HIM UNTIL YOU'RE 18". I'm 18 now and she still denies my right to go wherever I please despite being a police officer.
I was wondering if it says anywhere in the law book that says she can't keep a legal adult against his/her will in a home.

edit: What I should've said was "2nd in command at police station"=has some sort of power that can be used against me.

You are an adult and legally can live where you like.

But seriously, the very fact that you as an adult has to ask this question makes me wonder if you are really prepared to make your own decisions. Some people mature more quickly than others.

It would be an imprisonment. She cannot keep you against your will. Why don't you contact your dad and have him help you take her to court. You could file a criminal complaint against her (go to a higher deputy than her), file the complaint, and take her to court. It will cost you nothing. You could actually ask the judge to take her parental rights from you 'cause you're no longer wish to be her daughter.

Another solution: simply leave the house (pretend you're going to school or to a store) and never come back. Go to your dad'
s and call her telling her you're not coming back. She won't be able to do anything since you're 18.

Good luck!

I really doubt you are a police officer if you are asking this question, but that thought aside, it depends on your legal status and in what area you are living, probation and things like that can actually have an effect on the age of emancipation as it applies to things like this. I actually agree with the poster above me, regardless of age or occupation, you don't seem mature enough to be making any decisions, although it doesn't sound like your mom is bang on either so....good luck.
