Hello, I am really sorry to hear that you were hurt. Growing up I always got the belt. A lot of parents have grown up with their parents punishing them like that. Now a days, people are more cautious of what is considered abuse. I know when I have kids I do not want to hit them but it is hard to decipher what is appropriate and what is not appropriate because a lot of people have different opinions. Now did you do something that caused you to get in trouble? If you did, that could be the reason why your dad hit you with the belt. If he is doing this for no reason then it is a BIG NO NO!

See growing up I knew if I heard the snapping of the belt I did something wrong. I hated it growing up but now that I am older I realized that this is how my parents were raised. If you think that the beatings are exaggerated and more than what they should be maybe your father has some anger issues he needs to work on.

It is good to talk to someone but understand before you attack okay.. good luck hun.

All these people who are telling you it is illegal for your father to spank you, with a belt or not, are all WRONG.

There is a difference between a good spanking and a beating. Kids today think they don't deserve spanked and often times lie about what was really done. I hope you aren't doing that right now.

It is a form of physical abuse but sadly unless there are marks you can't do much but if he is beating you, you can claim mental abuse if there are no marks left due to the act of violence and your relation to the person and your age, and if there are marks you should have a solid case for child abuse.

Yes sweetheart it is no one deserves this no matter what thats why we have laws . I sure hope your mom can take care of this. my two boys have never been hit spanked whhatever for reasons like this that i grew up and we are not rich but yes i do yell at them but they are my babys and we all make mistakes thats how we learn and they are very good boys ages 15 17 im praying

Yes it is illegal to do that but I hope you are not over stating what happen to you because you are upset with him If he left marks on you then they will charge him with child abuse. I don't know why you were not living with your mom but if there is a problem about that you might end up in a home and that isn't good however sometimes they will make the parent seek help and return the child to the home once they feel the parent has changed God Bless You and good luck sweetie I know it is hard but it is going to get worse for you a while before it gets better just simply sending you home with mom isn't going to be the end of this so prepare yourself and you might even want to ask the counselor what to expect from here. I know some kids who got made at their dad for grounding them and said he did this to get even and now they are in a home and dad is in trouble and it wasn't at all what happen I am not saying that you are because I believe if he left marks on you then you did the right thing although at some points it might make you wonder just take care of yourself and I hope mom can keep you with her to prevent more abuse.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. You should definitely talk to someone in authority about this. There is a HUGE difference between punishing a child and child abuse. My mother used to beat me with the belt for reasons such as not wanting to babysit 7 days a week for 6 months at a time. She beat me with the belt so hard one time that it left black and blue marks and welts on my entire body, and just for going to dinner with my boyfriend and his parents. I was a good kid who was basically held prisoner by my mom so she could party with her boyfriend every day. SEEK HELP NOW. BTW, your dad probably needs psychological help as well.

that is abuse I remember getting beat for something that was not my fault when I was around 10 someone told my mother that i had left the house while she went to do some errands in the next town when i told her that the neighbor was home all day and had seen me around the house all day she didn't even ask her she believed the other person so she said that she was going to beat me and beat me she took a leather belt and didn't stop beating me until the belt broke in two some one eventually told her that i was home and that i hadnt left she apologized but after that my dad was careful not to leave any belts around she did express regret for it on her death bed but as a result we were never really close after that in fact i was more sad and upset when my father died than i was when my mother died in later years my mother eventually admitted that she had a problem with wanting be in control of everything its the reason that i lived a 100 miles away from her as an adult so that i could have my own life with out her trying to control everything.
