No.
As long as the employee has the option of declining excess hours offered by an employer, is paid accordingly, and is not in a profession that mandates maximum hours worked (such as an air traffic controller), and employee is free to work as long as they desire. |

it all depends on his work contract that he signed,the last place i worked i was contracted to work 40hrs per week and thats it no more and no less,i could work more if i wanted to (Overtime) but i didnt have to i had the choice. he needs to look at his contract |

It is not illegal but there is such a thing called the working time directive. If he visits www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk he should get more info on this. There is another website which i can't remember the address of at the moment so if it's not listed on jobcentre plus website i suggest he search for jobs that entail more than 40hrs a week and the website should be listed in the job description on all jobcentre plus vacancies. |
