Is it illegal to carry a purse in school?

You should put the state that your school is in. I feel like this is a violation to you and the entire students in that school. You are allowed to bring your belongings with you around school and that is NOT illegal. Thus it is yours and you should often protect your belongings, it is still not fair and this should be made illegal for him to be announcing this. You are allowed to carry a purse in school and from a student who went through elementary to college, students carried all their items around because students in New York often travel from one class room to another rather quick. I would speak to your parents about this and the principal. Have him/her show you the source where he got this "law" from or did he just make it up.

It's not illegal, but it could be against school policy. And that's pretty ridiculous to disallow girls purses.. for a couple of reasons..

Schools usually make backpacks, large coats and other large worn items against policy because of the trouble they cause in a crowded hallway. They increase the risk of injury and make crowded hallways even more crowded. Purses are usually exempt because you can keep it under your arm and they generally don't cause problems like a bulky backpack or coat.

School rules and laws are two different things though, so don't confuse the two. He might have meant its illegal according to school rules, but if he meant illegal by law its not true.

it is only illegal if you are smuggling cans of fried rice in or out of the school.

I never heard of that. Although rules vary from school to school, it doesn't sound "illegal".

i think every school is different. My kids go to a middle school in a very small town in oklahoma and they are not allowed to carry any types of bags.. its crazy, i know. Im sure it has to do with being able to hide contraband... but c'mon, nothng like that has ever happened in our small town.

100% legal. Sorry but your principal is just advising you not to due to the likelihood of it being stolen. Not illegal at all.

no its not illegal but i think your principal could make it into a school policy.. not sure, read your school handbook with all the policies in it.

What state are you in? I haven't heard any new law about that where I am from (TX). We are able to carry purses and back packs in our school. It shouldn't be against the law it just sounds to silly.

School makes there own rules. We were not allowed to have backpacks because of drugs and guns etc. They are allowed to say what you can and can't have in school.

backpacks and purses are about the same- I swear some "purses" should be called luggage. But they are a saftey hazard people trip over them and you can hide a weapon in there. its for saftey.

Uhm... that sounds pretty dumb... you need your backpacks and stuff like that in school, it shouldn't be illegal... at least it's not in Canada... where do you live?! Purses should be fine...???
