Yes it is. Primarily because of weather factors in Florida, it's considered an act of neglect/cruelty.

Yesterday, it was 50 degrees and cloudy/windy and I had my dogs with windows half way down to run in to the store and some well-intentioned, I'm sure, but obnoxious and overzealous nonetheless woman told me she was calling the cops on me. Now, I'm an animal lover who would NEVER leave dogs in the car in the heat but come on.....there has to be a modicum of reasonableness. For the record, the deputy agreed with me that they were not in any way endangered but asked me to take them home anyway just to avoid escalating the situation. I've called the police myself before when the situation warranted, but this was just ridiculous. |
