Is it illegal to marry your cousin?

I think I read somewhere that it is illegal to marry your cousin, but I am desperately in love with mine! I live in the UK btw.

It is OK I think in UK.

In the U.S. it is prohibited for marrying your first cousin in some states, but the U.S. is pretty much alone amongst developing countries in this idea. Many cultures encourage the marrying of first cousins.

The U.S. may be trying to placate the religious nutcases or something, not sure.

Also recent studies have shown that there are not the genetic problems that originally were thought to exist.

Go for it. No big deal.

as long as its not immediate family e.g. mom, dad, brother, sister, grandparents!

It's allowed but if you have kids there is a higher risk of problems

No it is not, but it is recommended that first cousins do not have child because usually there is something wrong with them. And when Isay first cousin I mean for example. I you are your parents first child and your cousin is his or hers parents first child.
