no. he should have had a written agreement with you before doing this. If you were unaware he was allowed to do this then you probably haven't got one in your employment contract. He should also have had a budget he took your training out of as he will get it back from the government anyway when he claims it on his taxes. |

Only if you agreed in advance, and the benefit to you.
Most employers would not charge you. |

I don't think so, you should query it, most companies cover the costs of courses they want their employees to go on. |

if you didn't sign up for it , why is he making you pay for it, ? ask for it back |

If the training session will enhance your work and expertise, there`s no reason why he shouldn`t take money from you to cover the cost.
After all, if it will help you in your job, and you always try to do your best, what`s wrong in doing it better or quicker?
On the other hand, if it does not enhance your earnings or causes you to do the job better or quicker, then he/she should foot the bill. |

you dont nessarily have to sign up for training it can be part of your job expectations. Some places do charge for this but it is usually a good discount. |

It depends upon the specifics of the case, check your contract and contact citizens advice with the full details. Did you agree to the course verbally? Should you have been there but decided not to go? Not trying to accuse you but if you want to dispute it these are things your boss will probably claim so best to be prepared and know that you are 100% in the right.
Good luck. |

Not unless you agreed to pay beforehand. Query it with your boss. If there is no written contract he is breaking the law. |

UK yes it is but you can claim it back through the tax office. |

Your boss is breaking the law, (employment) any costs any company has towards training has to come out of their (company's)trg budget.
If your company refuses to return the money you can take them to any smal claims court. I would suggest that you approach your line manager and follow the protocols first b4 going down the legal path. Or phone your local ACAS office |

if you didnt agree to this payment to start with then it is illegal |

not unless you signed to say as much in your contract, if not then speak to him, if that gets you nowhere take it further |

who knows, but £20 is cheap for a course or is that a month? |

No, not if he didn't ask you before the course if you were prepared to pay. My husband has to refund the cost of any courses he takes if he is not there for 6months after the course, but he is always told the cost beforehand.
Unless you have inadvertantly signed something to the effect in your original contract you should be entitled to your money back. Give Citizens Advice a ring just so you know you have all the facts before you approach him.
Good Luck. xx |
