Section 15(1) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 states
An employer shall not receive a payment from a worker employed by him unless the payment is required or authorised to be made by virtue of a statutory provision or a relevant provision of the worker's contract, or the worker has previously signified in writing his agreement or consent to the making of the payment.
In other words, unless you've signed a contract or other document authorising your employer to fine you, they can't do it. If you signed such a document after starting your job, they then can't fine you for any transgression before the date of that document. |

If you are not already in a UNION, ask yourself, why not? You need to join a UNION today. Once you are a fully paid up member, your union will demand of your boss to know what the hell he is playing at. If you are being fined at work (UK) such activity by an employer would cause so much stink that questions would be asked about it in parliament. That's a promise. |

Yes, for example, if you damaged his property in some way, either accidentally, or on purpose. |

Depends on what the employee handbooks says and even then most likely not. You can have your pay docked though, if thats what you mean.
They can never charge you for stuff accidently broken during the course of performing your job. |

Depends on where you work, what you do for a living, and whether you signed a contract allowing such fines. |

I wish my employer could fine me some money. I need it. Of course I never lose any money so he can't find it. |

If you have caused loss of profits or damages then your wages can be docked. |

It is generally routine to GET money from an employer. Many years ago, they used to dock a grocery clerks wages if they were short any more than 25 cents, but I haven't heard of that in years. |
