You must be 21 to purchase a handgun from an FFL dealer. 18 to own or use a handgun. However I would check to be sure and I would be sure to document the lending of the firearm. |

It does depend upon where you live. As a an 18 year old in Oregon it was legal for my parents to purchase a handgun (.22 single action pistol) and for me to be in possession. Same held true when I was still under 18 in Nevada, I could possess but not purchase a handgun. If you are under 21 with a handgun in California however, your are breaking the law. Contact a local gun shop and ask them if you are legal to be in possession of the handgun at less than 21 years of age. |
