No. Have you ever heard about anybody getting stoned and beating his wife? No. He got stoned and forgot to beat his wife. I live in Alaska where marajuana is legal.

Heather

Odd way to look at it I think. If smoking weed becomes legal, they better strike every single antismoking law off the books. The same strange activists that want to ban smoking because it kills you in about 60 years are the same people that want to be able to smoke a joint legally. No wonder the democrats have sideshow Presidential nominees.

Yes as for dopers being legal in Alaska, studies have shown that a VERY high percentage of people who enter the criminal justice system have marijuana in their system. Not everyone spaces out and eats chocolate chip cookies and milk after their bong hits. Most of the violent criminals smoke marijuana also, in addition to the other drugs.
You may be angry and protest this answer, but marijuana shows up in most criminal's systems, believe it or not. We had a murder where 4 people were killed and the 5th was left for dead, but survived because it was bitter cold and they thought she was already gone. Guess what, marijuana smokers also.
Call it reocurring coincidence, but it's there.

Yes. Unless you intend to eat the marijuana in brownies or something. What does not make sense is that cigarettes are legal. Smoking destroys lung tissue. Marijuana a bit faster because it burns hotter than tobacco.

Both alcohol and THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) can cause genetic damage.

Alcohol is more dangerous that marijuana...

Nope

The failure of the Prohibition Act made it impossible for alcohol to be illegal. Many people, from all parts of society, were addicted to alcohol and the law was impossible to enforce. If marijuana were more widely accepted and used by everyone it would have a better chance of being legalized. I'm in favor of neither and to answer the question, it is illogical.

no, of course not, but a few wealthy people are wealthy keeping things the way they are.... lawyers especially....

Yes. The govt can regulate everything about alcohol from production to sales. And the alcoholic beverage industry simply complies.

Not possible with marijuana.

I've tended bar and I've worked in a store that sold smoking aides.

You can figure out which job had customes who gave me the most trouble, can't you?

Legalize it. Period.

No, it is not logical. . . But then again, have you ever known a logical lawmaker? They keep marijuana illegal because it is a major revenue generator. Everytime someone gets arrested for possession of marijuana it's $1000 - $2000 (depending on where you live) in the local governments pocket. If they legalized it, and taxed it, they would have the same revenue from the taxes, but it would go to the state government, not the city or county. So the counties and cities fight to keep it illegal. Also, there is no easy way to test for it on roadside. They don't have a breathalizer for marijuana, so it's difficult to prove DUI/DWI with marijuana. . . .

There is more to it than that, but it's all about the money!

NO!

Uncle Chuck
No.

It doesn't seem logical to me, they both do pretty much the same thing. Plus, alcohol is way more addictive than marijuana.

Not 100%, no. Remember though, alcohol was illegal at one point in time, until it was lobbied for to the government and they found out ways to regulate it sucessfully.

Believe me, if there were more people out there who wanted pot legal, it would be. There is also the fact that a lot of the people who may object would do so so strongly that it negates the yes votes. Kind of like their opposition would equal two votes because their opposition is so strong. Does that make sense?

Warren D
Yes it is, for one key reason. Alcohol is well-regulated, predictable in quality, and generally its use and misuse are covered by a variety of laws.

Marijuana is highly variable in potency, quality and its effects are much harder to predict. While both substances can do some damage to people, marijuana can be more dangerous because it is taken in by smoking. You get a lot of tars out of a joint.

However, it might be possible to make an argument that the chemical that puts the punch in marijuana could be refined out and taken in some other way, perhaps as a pill. If this were done it might be possible to more safely use marijuana.

Like alcohol it would have to be controlled. Also like alcohol, it could be expected that different people could have different reactions to it.

In their present forms, however, it is quite logical for alcohol to be legal and marijuana illegal.
