Is it not time we brought back hanging.?

We are all ways being told we live in a caring society. I don’t think so. It is not much comfort to the family of the police officer who was murdered yesterday in the line of duty, to know his killer will be taken care of by the state. Overpaid lawyers and social workers will hover around to reap there rewards. Its time we said when the case is cut and dried that the killer should be put down. We have no room in society for these people. Moreover, please no stupid answers from any pinco liberals please. The soft do-gooders are causing all our problems. This goes for all the people who have been murdered by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Additional Details I wish people would read the whole question and comments properly.
I am saying if the person is apprehended at the scene. Then there is no doubt. The punishment should be swift and total. Do not forget all you do-gooders, there are a lot more people out there who would willingly do the job.

Yes, capital punishment should be greatly increased and appeals reduced.
The hangman needs to get to work and start serving justice to these criminals. |
|

Anyone know?

I have been an advocate of the death penalty for most of my life...
But when you look into it some more...innocent people are indeed being put to death. And my conscience could not deal with being involved in an innocent person being put to death.
Honestly, I get your point, I really do, but take a while to see some of the videos about this subject which exist out there.
It might even change your mind. It did to me. |

I was anti capital punishment for years on the basis that we have hung a lot of innocent people in the past. However, I have changed my mind providing, as you say, there is no doubt. The neanderthals are taking over and I am sick and tired of being scared to take my wife into town for a drink and a meal on Saturday night. Yes - top em and let decent people have their country back. |

Hanging is a complete waste of a perfectly good body which cold be used to trial life - saving drugs. I think we should use these monsters as guinea pigs to test drugs, instead of innocent animals. Maybe the lives they destroyed would be rebuilt when cures for cancer and AIDS are discovered!! |

Blood spilt out of revenge doesn’t leave a satisfied feeling for very long.
Instead of over paid lawyers and social workers, there will be overpaid ‘doctors’ and ‘witnesses’ doing these acts. Considering most doctors would be happy not issuing abortions you’re going to have to pay a lot to get a Doctor to kill someone in this day and age in the UK.
However it is clear you’re not prepared to listen to anyone else because, your opinion is obviously correct and everybody else is a do-gooder, naturally. |

Maybe, the killer deserves it, but the problem is that some people might be wrongly "proven" guilty & the wrong person hanged. But in general, if this country doesn't stand up & toughen up (including the government) then it's doomed. People should have an opinion, instead of just accepting everything like it's all fine, people are living in fantasy land. Wake up people. |
|

Why not?
 |
No you should try them then take them to the back of the courthouse and blow their brains out. |

Buy, borrow or rent the movie, "Ten Rillington Place", about the notorious serial killer, John Reginald Halliday Christie. An innocent man by the name of Evans, who had a mental age of 12, was hanged for these horrible crimes, only for Christie, his landlord, to later admit to the murders. This will change your mind. |

It is immoral for a society to kill a mind. Simple fact, the human mind is a superior evolutionary system to a social system. Send them to an island, imprison them for life, but every human mind is valuable beyond reproach or insult. To kill another person outside of direct self-defense is to demean oneself as a reasoning human being. I'm personally not willing to be that self-destructive or to remain that much in denial.
That is not to say we should not stand up for what's right, nor that criminals shouldn't be excluded from our civilization, nor that we shouldn't be able to carry guns and defend ourselves if necessary or to expect our police to do the job for us if we are too weak. |

Yes, let's bring back hanging - and why not the birch, burning witches at the stake, the law of tooth and claw and submerging people to see if they're guilty or not? If only there was a way to send prats like you back to the Middle Ages - you seem to want to live in them after all... |

You stupid idiot.
Don't ask a question in "Law and Ethics" and then tell people they can only answer if they agree with you.
Hanging is wrong for a number of reasons, perhaps the most important is the long list of people who have been released from prisons over the years after a serious miscarriage of justice has been brought to light.
I've yet to hear of anyone being returned from the grave after it was found that they were in fact not guilty or should not have been convicted.
e.g. the case of Derek Bentley v The Crown
See http://www.innocent.org.uk/cases/derekbentley/judgement.htm
OK so you will argue that only in cases of absolute proof.
This is simply ridiculous. The burden of proof is on the prosecution already.
You know perfectly well that a conviction can only be brought after the prosecution has proved "beyond all reasonable doubt" the guilt of the defendant, and yet time and time again people are released from prison.
Imagine is the woman who supposedly shook her babies to death and was convicted on the evidence of ONE so called expert who's methodology was later shown to be flawed, had been executed.
How would you released her back to her remaining family and make an apology.
I'm sure she is not exactly thrilled at how she was treated but at least she is not dead.
Pinkoes is spelt with a "K" by the way but I would not expect a reactionary, right wing, moron to know that.
Do you somehow believe that hanging will prove an effective deterrent to crime?
Or perhaps that eventually when all the evil murderers are dead there will only be nice normal people left?
Do you have any ANY AT ALL evidence to back this sduggestion up?
No I didn't think so.
In countries where death is the ultimate penalty there are still murders there are still rapes there are still people wrongly convicted and criminals walking free under the yoke of useless judicial systems so what is achieved?
Only one thing. A feeling of revenge in the few mindless souls for which this means something.
Revenge never brought one single victim back but it has ruined the souls of the aggrieved relatives more than once.
Revenge eats away at you inside, you can't measure it but its is real. It does not help to know that the killer of your beloved is in the grave, it only makes you as bad as them.
We are fortunate for once that our government has not seen fit to follow the people in this matter.
If it were put to a referendum tomorrow we would vote to bring back hanging, I am sure of it.
Thankfully the government knows that and will not allow it to happen. They should listen to us on a few other things but I'm glad they don't on that.
Oh if you don't like my arguments think about this.
As we head inexorably towards a police state (if we are not already there) under the influence of idiots like yourself, with more and more cameras and surveillance, threats of ID cards in the offing, more and more police, draconian arrest laws, etc etc when the government wants to arrest you for protesting against them and the death penalty is back due to popular demand will you be happy when they hang you for treason because you objected to oppression?
Lastly I should point out that we would have to leave Europe completely in order to return to capital punishment since it is outlawed in all EU countries.
But I suppose you would go for that as well, under the impression that somehow Britain can stand on its own two feet without an empire and without any free trade partners anywhere in the world.
Well best of luck to you fellah you're gonna need it. |

I am actually pro death penalty although I am liberal. But you didn't ask that question. You said hanging which is just another form of putting someone already convicted to death. Someone who is already going to die by another method. Those who believe it is cruel I would urge you to do a little research on the recent lethal injections that have taken as long as 17 minutes for a person to die while convulsing in agonizing pain. Even the chair or gas chamber can take several minutes. Hanging is nearly instantaneous and is probably less painful then the methods we use now. It certainly is faster. I would imagine the guillotine to be the quickest and least painful death possible. That being said, we only consider hanging and the guillotine as cruel and unusual because of the dismemberment or disfiguring of the body.
That said, I am against hanging for those very reasons. Those that take innocent life should suffer horribly before they die. I would not be opposed to some sort of torture process that would cause the same pain the victims endured before they died. After due process however. Not immediately. Police cannot be trusted to be judge, jury, and executioner. |
