...said much worse and he is till on the air and more famous than ever before in his career. Also, if a black comentator had, said,"those cracker ho's", would he/she had been fired? My opinion is NO. Tell me what you think.

I'm glad you brought up Howard Stern.....that is a good point......to answer the question about the cracker Ho's...my guess is no.....i dont think the black commentator would be fired.......
Now this is what I think Don Imus was on his way out anyway...this is not the first time he has made comments like this.....I really think this situation was used publicly to kick him off the radio station.....
Howard Stern has a much stronger following and fan base than Imus could ever dream of.....until that fan base dies off....expect to see Howard for many years to come.
I tried to be as honest as possible and put my own emotions aside when i answered this question...... |

Dear you hear Nagin's speech about New Orleans The Chocolate City and the extermination of White people? Did the Supposed reverends speak up for racism then? NO... THey are scum.. |

It all about money....once sponsors pull their funding from the black DJ or Howard Stern they will be made to be punished....When last year Howard Stern was having trouble with Clear Channel...they were prepared to fire him ....but he was picked up by Sirius radio....thus keeping him in business....it will take us as consumers to tel sponsors not to fudn those we find in bad taste or disruptive to our society...until this happens there will always be an unfairness. |

I won't say if it right or wrong but the media industry is an ocean of hypocrisy. The rap and hip-hop music sponsored by CBS and its affiliates is tons worse. |

Imus got jobbed. Remember Rosie O'Donnell's "Chinese" joke of a few months ago? Did she get fired? Apparently it is okay to offend some people but not others. |

Well, there is an important difference here: Imus is on the public airwaves, while Howard Stern is on a privately operated and owned network. The difference is not sterile: when broadcasting on frequencies owned by the public, broadcasters are in theory bound by certain tastes, topics, and language that fits within public sense of propriety. That of course changes over time and is interpreted by the FCC (which eventually fined Stern off the air).
That said, was it "right" to fire him? I can't say. But he certainly deserved the public condemnation and some form of punishment... |

People pay to hear Howard Stern. That's OK right?I wish folks would remember the old sticks and stones thing. It's still true. |

I think the difference between Imus and Stern is that some people looked to Imus as a serious source of information with his quirky, sometimes sarcastic personal twist, whereas no one takes anything Howard Stern seriously he is for "entertainment" purposes only (although Stern has been cut out in many markets due to his brash comments).
I think if a black commentator made an ethnic slur against another race he would have been criticized also, but not lost his job over it. Case in point, the black guy on Grey's Anatomy that used a derogatory term for gays was publically criticized for the inappropriate one word slang for gays; however, his public apology was accepted and he was able to keep his job.
The only way you can have any sort of opinion in today's politically correct society is if you are a stand-up comedian and your views and words are for comedy and even some of them get raked over the coals.
What saddens me the most is to hear black people refer to other black people in derogatory slang and claim it is a term of endearment after how hard their ancestors fought for their rates in the past 100 years to gain respect. |

hey your figuring out the political correctness of the main stream media. Lets take every thing out of context, blame it for crushing dreams, and spew self righteous acid over the whole thing. There now isn't that better, Racism, is not a White persons problem only, all people have problems with it, we are human, diverse, and often we react without much real thought. I refuse to listen to any news, the media outlets are so competitive, they will hyperbole any story for a polarizing major event, do you really believe that all politicians or people, are always 100% opposite on any idea or belief? no thats insane, but it makes good sensationalized news, We have returned to the age of Yellow Journalism. People are way to thin skinned for no reason these days, we got no real problems I guess than what a loud mouth radio head says. I guess that good , right? |

Both of them are wastes of space, and shouldn't have jobs anywhere other than cleaning out the toilets at the subway station.
Howard Stern has built his entire career being 'outrageous' and pissing people off. He has run into his share of trouble with the FCC and various other groups. Claiming that he is just skating along and Imus is being treated unfairly is rather a rather uninformed opinion.
The fact is, Imus will probably come out on top of this whole thing. He will probably go on the talk show circuit, maybe write a book. He's probably already had dozens of job offers. There are a lot of people who agree with his views - and who will give him a pulpit to air his grievances.
If a black dude were to do something similar, they might be held to a different standard - which is wrong. At the same time, you don't exactly see black commentators doing that either do you?
Using hypothetical situations to try to prove your 'point' is pointless. |

I agree, but I think the difference between the companies that employ(ed) Imus and the company that employs Stern are as different as night and day. Which is why I think Imus was fired, CBS/MSNBC cares more about the tasteful content on their broadcasts and would prefer lack of controversy and bad media. I think Sirius thinks the more controversial and tasteless, the better.
That being said, I wonder if there would have been such an uproar if Imus had said that they were "trailer trash hoes" about a predominantly caucasian team. |

You are absolutely right! I also think that Howard Stern has had his share of dealing with these types of situations and has "job hopped" often over his career. But, I agree that if an African American commentator made those comments there would be absolutely nothing on the news right now except that damn war in Iraq. |

if Imus had said the exact same thing about white women, this would not have been a blip on the radar. The problem is that there are people out there waiting for the opportunity to be offended by any remark and they are great at smelling blood at which point, they start circling.
The statement was wrong and the girls were due an apology which i think imus should have written in his own hand and mailed to them or done in person - not a public apology on air. The rest of the people 'offended' need to change the channel. Imus offends most people at least some of the time, that's his job.
Personally, i hope he gets a job on satellite radio and lives forever there. |

As a radio personality, Don Imus was fully aware of his role as a spokesman for his employer. That day he did a poor job, and for some reason it got picked up on the news. He deserved to be fired. Yep, "cracker ho's" would also get a guy fired if it was blared across the nation. Howard Stern gets away with more at a different company, on different airwaves. Maybe Imus should try to get a job there at Sirius. |

Discrimination on the grounds of race is not generally OK because no-one can help their race, and in any case race is rarely a factor that affects someone's abilities or aptitudes.
