If you live in a block of flats or any building that is attached to another property then I would imagine yes as you'd be putting other peoples lives at risk. |

It's not the Law in the UK, but your landlord does have a right of entry to fit them providing he gives adequate notice of intent. |

You may find that your tennancy requires you to have approved alarms fitted and the right of entry upon reasonable notification exists. It seems as though they are trying to do this by agreement but you are unhappy that this is being done without your request.
Don't take this the wrong way, but they are a safety device, fitted for your protection and that of the premises. They could be the difference between a person entering a smoky building to rescue YOU or risking their life entering an inferno too late. They are no doubt a requirement of the Landlord's insurance and I think you're being obstructive.
Forget the law, and use common sense. |

Well is it a rented place?Might be a requirement for landlord to have a working one installed , Can't really see what the problem is |

In the UK it is not a law. However if your property is rented from a Landlord he can insist that you have them fitted. No-one can force entry into your home unless it is the Police. |

Could you explain a bit more about this please
if you live in a rented house your landlord should fit smoke alarms etc but forced entry sounds a bit extreme
are you always out so they cant gain access? |

depends where you live, but generally yes, smoke alarms are required.
quit the histrionics, you are not being threatened with "forced entry".
visit your local fire station to inquire about local regulations - they might even give you free smoke detectors for your place, and if you are really nice to them, maybe they will come over and install them for you. |

do you live in a rented house or flat?
if yes then i think it is the law for your landlord to have the correct measures in place to protect you and your family, and i think that includes some sort of fire alarm.
so i suppose you have to let them in to fit whats required. |

Not law but advisable, however if your home has been built recently or is owned by the local authority or housing association it is a legal requirement that the builder/freeholder puts in a smoke alarm - not sure what you mean by force entry? |

You may own 4 smoke alarms, but if you have bought them yourself they may not be up to the spec that your landlord is required to fit. Unfortunately if you die in a fire the landlord will not be able to say "well he told me he had a smoke alarm". It could be that yours are absolutely OK, but the landlord will need to inspect them to be sure.
Your landlord will be required, by law, to ensure the property meets various safety requirements, including smoke alarms. The landlord is also entitled to enter the premises to conduct reasonable maintenance of the property, which would include any legally required safety upgrades.
Normally this is done at a time mutually agreed with the tenant, but where the tenant ignores all reasonable requests the landlord is entitled to force entry if necessary.
And it doesn't have to be the actual landlord, but anyone appointed by them to do the work. |

Most states don't have any laws, but if you are renting, leasing or have your home on loan through a bank they have every right to tell you to have a smoke alarm because they are keeping there asset safe from a fire. Some home owners insurance policies also have a clause saying you need to have a smoke alarm for the policy to be valid. I don't know of any laws though, maybe someone else will have that answer. You can also google your state laws to see if there is anything about it, or call your local courthouse for those laws. Hope this helps!!! |
