Not only that, but they cannot research any facts in the trial either. They can read the news if they are not expecting the case to covered by the paper so if you are in a local small town trial you can read the NYT. But if there is trial where they are talking about fingerprint evidence you can't go online to find out how precise fingerprinting is.

I was in jury selection about a truck accident and the defence lawyer asked if anyone knew about brake fatigue. One of the possible jurors raised his hand and he was eliminated from the trial. They want the jury to all have the same knowledge about the evidence.

You have to be 18 to be on a jury. I was on a Grand Jury and it was pretty intense.
