Is it wrong to bring your gun to church?
|
Whether or not you are religious and for whatever reason you are attending the church, do you think it is wrong to bring your gun to church if you are doing so for legitimate reasons and as a good samaritan?
For example, if someone is a police officer who is also a church goer and keeps the pistol on his/her person at all times, or anyone else who is a law-abiding citizen and practices their right to bear arms?
I don't think it is wrong. I think the only thing that is wrong is whether or not the intentions of the individual carrying is malicious. Some people may say that it is immoral and that church is the "House of God", but I do not believe this is immoral at all, and I don't think God would have a problem with people being prepared to protect themselves.
Think about, for instance, living in a ghetto neighborhood and fearing for your life regardless of where you are, or in a foreign country where Christians are persecuted for their beliefs.
Your thoughts on this?

Your life can be threatened anywhere, even in church, so shouldn't you have the right to defend yourself wherever you are? And for those who say "prayer is the answer", no offense, but your prayer isn't going to cause a bad guy's bullet to just fall out the air if he's trying to shoot you. Instead, you ought to pray that he's not as good of a shot as you are! ;) |

Some people in my community do bring firearms to church but they keep them out side in their pickups, but then that's a common sight here. |

I just cant imagine what reasons a person would have to do so. Other than if you were a police officer on call etc..
I suppose I think its the church's right to ask their members not to do so.
Cant imagine other than a cop why someone would want to bring a gun to church. And I actually remember there was a shooting after church in a church parking lot what was it about a year ago.
Kinda seems like a crazy question but I see your question seems genuine. |

Boy, some people sure do like to make this a complicated issue, don't they?
Can you be attacked while at church? Ask Jeanne Assam.
Can you successfully defend your life and the lives of those you love if your gun is not on your person, or in your hand? Ask Suzanna Gratia Hupp.
If you don't know who those two ladies are, check them out.
The simple fact is, guns can be used for good, or for evil. If you are a good and moral person, taking a gun to church with you doesn't somehow turn you into a bad or immoral person. You are the same person, only armed, and capable of dealing with a deadly threat by meeting it with lethal force. Unarmed, you are just another target, hoping not to get killed. |

Law enforcement individuals who have a license to carry a weapon do so at all times...even when they are 'off duty' they are still a law officer. If they see a crime they do their job on or off duty, they are always prepared. If some maniac went nuts inside a church with a gun and a law enforcement officer happened to be in there, he or she would take care of the situation as expediently as possible.
Carrying a gun is not in itself immoral. But I would wonder why the average citizen would feel he needs to pack a weapon to go to church. I go to church and have never felt threatened enough by the pastor that I felt I needed to carry a gun. Now, I have come under condemnation for past behaviors before coming to the Lord and I knew I needed to repent or face judgment and I also know that when you meet God a gun won't do you any good... |

I'm not sure how I feel on this, I would hate to think there are more people with guns than without, I don't go to Church , but for those that do , I would like to think they would be safe coming & going to where they think should be a safe quiet place for anyone to be,There is too much gun crime in the world, |

What about those who live by the sword die by the sword...Christ I believe would rather you to take the bullet and forgive...Hard to be a true Christian,I understand, but Jesus would turn the other cheek, after all he died for the criminal and the victim equally ! |

I would not like to attend any public gathering where people, other than the police, are carrying guns. I have lived in ghetto neighborhoods and I know that the more people who have guns the more people get shot. The police are trained not to use their guns where innocent bystanders may be shot, but someone who is fear of their life and armed may shoot anybody that spooks them or hit innocent bystanders when shooting at the bad guys. I do not know Gods mind, so I can not say that he would have a problem with guns in church, but I have a problem with it. |

People shouldn't bare arms unless we are at war, or said person is planning on succeeding from the U.S. We have police officers and military to protect us. If you feel that isn't enough, perhaps you yourself should enroll into law enforcement. Guns don't kill innocent people. People kill innocent people. As long as we make it easy for the average law following idiot to buy a gun, people are at risk. I am not saying all gun owners are idiots. But it is too easy for dumb/stupid people to buy guns too. It's easier just to outlaw the use of guns in "public" locations. Now, if a gun owner's gun is used to kill an innocent person. The gun owner (regardless of how the gun was used) should be held on capital murder charges since they failed to keep their gun protected/locked away.
With all that being said, I don't think a gun belongs in Church or any other public location unless you are police/military or you want to form a new government. |

Even with a concealed handgun permit, this is not allowed by law. |

Well, did Christ carry a sword with him as he walked around with the apostles? He had plenty of enemies, and was eventually executed.
As for me, I am an atheist, and I have a CCW permit. I always try to be armed around Christians, because Christians are nuts, and they scare me. You never know when they will do something crazy or terrible (like the devout, homeschooled Christian man who massacred the Amish children at the school in Pennsylvania), so, I keep my pistol loaded around Christians.
There's no way in hell I would descend into a den of Christians such as a church without a loaded pistol and an extra, full clip in my other pocket. |

If it's apart of your god description to have a gun during your working hours, then it's ok.
But not when you are off duty. No one who doesn't need to have them should have them...
I'm Australian... And I don't like guns at all...
Edit: I DON'T LIKE GUNS!!
And trying to find excuses to justify using them is weak. |
