Limewire is completely legal as are other file sharing programs. Your actions using the program could however be illegal. If you are using limewire to download music files without the permission of the musician, artist, or the record company who distributes it then you are committing a felony which can get you into trouble.

you will pretty much only get caught if your letting people take files you own and let them download them. they don't bother going after the person who actually downloads them anymore.

If the artist put his/music out there for you to take, it is legal. But if you get the song from somebody else without the artist's permission, it is illegal. So part of limewire is illegal and some of it isn't.

Hey, but it's not like the police are going door to door arresting people for downloading music from there because everyone does it. And selling the music you download from limewire is really illegal, so I wouldn't suggest that you do that.

Limewire per se is legal. Transferring unlicensed content over it is not.- which is most of it anyway. But if you use Limewire, dont worry, it is extremely hard to track down the IP.
