yes because most drug dealers are ending up in there, crowding the places with no room for the more serious crimes such as rapists, or murderers. this causes them to lose time in their sentence which isn't fair or safe for the public.

News flash: Prison overcrowding is nothing new. Prisons were overcrowded in 1958 when i first went to prison and every prison thereafter that I have been in has and still is overcrowded, and they will remain that way forever. Unless and until ex-felons and prisoners have the right to vote again prisons will remain overcrowded because prisoners have no voice and the politicians use prisons as political footballs to further their personal agendas. 50 years ago most prisons were self-supporting for the most part as they had always been, prisons of today don't have farms, and industry that allow the prisons to be self-supportive, they teach no trades though they tell the public that they do and if they do the tools a methods that they teach with are usually so outdated that the prisoner is unable to utilize the knowledge as a marketable skill. They say that it costs around $30,000 dollars a year to incarcerate a person but approximately 82% percent of those dollars are for the administration of the prison. Prisoners are only warehoused and there is and never has been any meaningful effort toward rehabilitation that word is only a feel good word that the politicians use to appropriate their funding.
