Is "Did he as you to dinner?" a leading question? If it is, please explain as precisely as possible.

No, a leading question suggests the answer in the question so to ask your question in a leading manner would be "He asked you to dinner, didn't he?"

Let_just: I have no background in law but I leaned this in my Counselling course. A question that requires a "yes" or "no" answer is a closed question which doesn't encourage further discussion. The examples you give are open questions which do require more than just a "yes" or "no" and not leading questions. Leading questions suggest the answer in the question as in "He asked you to dinner, didn't he?"

Perhaps you are in the US and there is a difference there but to my knowledge, I am correct.

Yes it is, because it is a yes or no question. A proper direct examination question would be "What did you do next" or "Why did you eat dinner with him?" "Did he ask you to dinner" is like asking a police officer "Did he give you consent?" rather than "Why did you search the house without a warrant?" See the difference?
It could be argued either way really and the context of the case would be the determining factor.
