I would say it could be a good idea, if the delinquent was a violent criminal on a path toward probable death. Sometimes the harsh hand of the law is a rude awakening, but sending someone to boot camp, meaning to serve in the military, is potentially a death sentence, and I oppose the death penalty. I also believe peaceful rehabilitation is the best path, despite its drawbacks and inefficiencies. Like the President's recent stand against torture, if we compromise our values in enforcing the law, then the law's intended purpose, to sustain moral authority, is lost. |
