It's not illegal in America, but you will be held as you are a harm to yourself in whatever care the government sees fit. Ironically in old England circa 1600's the penalty for attempted suicide was death. |

Yes it is illegal. Yes there can be a charge for an attempt; but generally said people are unbalanced, and the charge is used to help get them into treatment if they resist. |

If you attempt it . . . they (the police) will "Baker Act" you and put in in a hospital for no less than 72 hours . . . .
At the hospital . . . they will put you on meds . . .
Keep in mind . . . you are attempting "murder" . . . on yourself.
Suicide is "self-murder" . . and murder, of anyone, even yourself, is illegal.

Well, there are many perspectives, both religious and legal. Legally taking your own live is murder, because you're deliberately ending a human life in cold blood, even though the person is yourself. Religiously the reason why suicide is looked down upon so strongly is because Gd gave people life, and death is considered automatic atonement for almost all sins. (That's very oversimplified) If you kill yourself, you're actually dying through a serious sin, and let's just say that definitely complicates things "upstairs". |
