No, there is no age limit. However, on matters that involve tax hikes, perhaps your input is not appreciated if you're not a taxpayer.
Estrella E is really the kind of person who should keep their trap shut. Such commentary is the dictionary definition of stupidity. |

If you want to speak your mind about an injustice that affects society, or if you want to preach etc...you may...but the freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to for instance...talk back to parents or teachers.
Here is the amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The 'freedom of speech' portion was intended to give people the right to speak out against the government if they believe they're messing up...without fear of being punished BY the government. |

Well, everyone seems to be missing the big picture.
1. Make sure you have something intelligent to say. Your experience level under 18 may deprive you of a valid viewpoint, or it may give you a better viewpoint. Figure out which, before you give an opinion.
2. Freedom of speech is just that. A right to speak. Doesn't mean anyone has to listen to you.
3. Remember that no proper definition of freedom is complete without the freedom to take the consequences. It is the freedom upon which all others are based. |

Nope, tell them to re-read the Constitution and see if it says anything about being 'under 18'. |

The constitution protects citizens. Legallly speaking, you are not a citizen until you can vote, therefore, children (I hate that word) are not citizens. Usually parents and the law grant rights to children prportional to their age. |

No, the bill of rights says that there is freedom of speech not that you have to 18 to have freedom of speech. When i was ten years old I was debating politics with my Aunts. GO ahead tell whoever told you that that they were wrong, I'm sure it will feel good. |

Legally - no. The constitution does not say you must be 18 to have rights. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of minors exercising their constitutional rights in numerous cases.
However, your parents are your legal guardians until age 18 and can limit your freedom in various ways. They can easily send you to a military academy or ground you for instance. Schools also can limit your freedom in some ways (though the courts have ruled that public schools must act within certain limits).
But if your parents support you, you may be sure that your right to speak is the same as an adult. |

I don't believe there is an age limit on the First Amendment right. However, the Amendment says that CONGRESS may not make a law that abridges free speech. This does not mean that your school, clubs, etc. can not tell you that you are not allowed to use certain language. The government cannot restrict this right, other institutions (not all) can. |

You have a certain degree of freedom of speech, under the precedent from the Tinker v. Des Moines decision. However, you don't have the right to use your freedom of speech to disrupt the educational environment. |

You guys are grossly misinterpreting what 'freedom of speech' actually refers to. |

There is no age limit, some people are just rude, and think young people should be seen, and not heard.
And to Estrella, I am over 60, and would even defend your right to speak. |

no there should not be. i have a 16 year old step son and he has an opinion and i do listen to him. he may not be right but he has the right to say what he thinks. even when he was 7 i would listen to him. as an adult i had the last word but i still let him put his two cents in. the elderly has a right to speak also because we can learn from their life experiences. they have been Thur a lot and maybe they can help us from making the same mistakes they made. i guess i was raised that everyone has the right to speak but we may not always do what other people tell us. it makes me angry when people tell child or older people they should shut up, one day we will be old too and i still want to have the right to speak my mind. |

Sorry. They are correct. You have to be 18 to enjoy the full protection of the Consitution. I know it sounds unfair, but that's the way it is (unless you become emancipated from your parents).
I found this out in high school when I was starting to get involved politically.
Have faith, you'll be an adult soon enough. |

There should be. People over sixty should shut their trap and just be thankful that as baby boomers they've lived this long. |
