Sorry you wont like my answer but : the Govt. has already decided car ownership and driving on public roads is a privilege and not a right as demonstrated by the requirements to have licences, road tax, & insurance. Generally people with their own drives and off road facilities have paid more in the first place for their properties and continue to do so by higher property taxes. If you can not provide your own facilities you can not expect exclusive use of a public highway. In areas where councils provide resident permit schemes the annual charge should be realistically high enough to cover the cost of the road construction - why should other rate payers subsidise your parking place - try constructing a drive or garage and you'll find out how much it does cost. In overcrowded areas a good case can be argued that if you do not have your own off road facilities you should not own a car and should use public transport. There are no free meals in life and presumably when you drive away from you 'own' street you park outside someone elses house. If you don't think non residents should park other than where they live presumably you'll be selling your car anyway. |

If they are parking on a public street, there is nothing you can do. Public streets are first-come, first-served, and don't "belong" to anyone. If it's a private street of some sort, you need to discuss it with whatever group owns the street: homeowner's association, or neighbors. |

oh you poor soul cant you manage to walk 100 yards after all they have managed to walk to another street which might be even further |

Grow up, you bought the house, not the street. Next time buy something with a driveway. |

Unless it's permit holders only then there's nothing you can do. It's a public road. |

What gives you the right to commandeer the space outside your own house? Unless they dont have tax and their parking legally you can't do anything. |

I have insurance and a current VEL, I can park where I like in a public street. |

Not unless you can get permission to drop the curb and create a driveway. |

Anyone can park on a public street. You can't prohibit it.
ALL taxpayers pay for streets, sidewalks and roadways and ALL taxpayers have the right to use them. |

Have no idea - I got a garage that people park in front of and I can't get my car out most days!! so no idea how to stop them on the street - I don't think there is much you can do if you have no driveway |

If it's a variety of people then no - you don't own the bit of public highway outside your house. However, if they are doing it to harass you then you can take action. |

I think a lot of the "answers" here are quite unfair - especially Corinne's about getting a life "you pr@t". Nobody has the right to attack someone like that for merely asking a question. The same as everyone has a right to their own opinion.
I do know it can be really frustrating not being able to park outside your own house - I have a neighbour with a double-drive and still they have 3 cars parked outside my house as well! BIG family!
I'm afraid with society going down the pan the way it is, there's not much you can do. |

i have the same problem you can try asking the person who parks there not 2 but the rule is if it is taxed they can park where they want only way round this is if you are registed disabled you can get council to mark out a parking spot but not worth breaking ur legs for really |

yes...complain to your local council..they will then make it permit parking only and you will then pay about £200 a year for the pleasure of parking in front of your house. |

Nothing you can do about it, a few large nails strategically placed by their tyres may help, but does it really hurt you to walk 100 yards. |

Do they park over night or are they visiting. are they stopping and meeting someone(might be a drug deal) in which case let local law enforcement know. short of no parking restrictions i doubt there is anything you can do. If you area is like mine if you can get enough people to sign a petition you can get a parking permit only for your block. |

Sure, park your car in a way that won't leave enough room for others to park.
Or, just dump dog poop on their hoods.
Your choice. |

I could not get my neighbor to stop parking on a shared driveway (which he doesn't even own) despite the fact that he made it difficult for me to park my car in the garage.
be careful going through solicitors as they usually will say you have a strong case and it ends up being very costly when the other party wants me to pay for their legal fees as I lost. |
