Just trying to settle an argument so my question is, is there anyway that a polygraph test can be beaten?

perhaps it could be 'beat' if the testee was, beforhand, hypnotized and the hypnotist sway the testee to 'believe' he is innocent (or whatever the case may be)

It can definitely be beaten - they sell books on how to beat it, have course studies, etc. Lie Detector tests are not infallible.

Someone who believes what they're saying...a true pathological liar...can beat a polygraph. Since a pathological liar truly believes what they're saying, they do not register the physiological changes that are measured in a polygraph.

Luckily, there are few TRUE pathological liars out there.

I imagine a person truly well trained in a meditation may be able to get a lie by it too.

people beat polygraphs on a regular basis. Take your average run of the mill sociopath, he does not believe he's done anything wrong...even murder. That's why they cannot be used in a court of law.

there are several methods to beat a polygraph. This is why the test results cannot be used in courts.

Some people say that if you make yourself believe the lie, you can beat a polygraph but I really don't know. It usually measures your heart rate, etc. during the test and when you lie and know you're lying your heart rate normally speeds up for fear that the other person knows you are lying. So if you can figure out a way to control your heart rate then I say yes, you can beat a polygraph test.

Yes, its a matter of self-confidence when you r at test, so get loose and comfortable, or if not maybe take a drug pill like antidepressant or antianxiety ones.

I do not know about the new versions that have been put into the field since 2002...
However the older versions up to that point can be defeated by just putting yourself in such a relaxed state of mind and body that your heart rate stays within the range levels of the operator...
And this is not defeating the machine,but delaying the test for another time and different operater...Electrical stimulation will throw off all readings...
But only for a breif period of time...
However in the end,most people will test differently with different operators(testers).As they all view their readings from slightly different points of their opinionated view...
