Legal memo? how long?

What should i include in a legal memo a cause of action against a company and a person who was assualted by an employee of the company while on the job.

i already wrote about what cause of action
what else should i include?

Make it clear and concise, and as short as possible. People won't read long memos.

Avoid statements such as, "In my opinion...." Of course it's your opinion; it's your memo.

Look at every paragraph and ask yourseld, "Is this relevant?" If it will not, toss it.

Start your memo by making it very clear what subject you are addressing. End it with a declarative statement of your conclusion. Don't make your reader(s) try to figure out what you are saying or what you mean. Tell them.

Look at these:

"As I think about it, I can only conclude that you are an idiot."
versus
"You are an idiot."

Same message, but the second one is more direct. That's what a memo should be -- direct.

When I was in graduate school, I took a course in business research and reporting writing. We had to analyze business situations, define the problem(s) and offer a solution. We had to do it in six pages, double-spaced, or less. One word on page seven and you got an "F."

The key is relevance.
