Legal name change privacy?

Hi,

So my best friend is thinking about changing her name legally. But she realized that if you go on the county clerk website, a noted record of someone who has undergone a name change are available to the public. Now the reason she's is doing this is due to private issues involving a crazy ex-boyfriend.

Is there anyway she can change her name, and the public won't be able to search for the record of that change on the county clerk's site?

JSmack19: what do you mean by "A name change must be published in a newspaper for a certain period of time"? Could you expand on that?

Change your name in a different county that doesn't have the same laws. That might entail temporarily moving though (or at least claiming a different residence)

To answer your newspaper question: You must post an ad in the newspaper (Notices section of classifieds) that runs for three days stating that you (your present name) will be now be known as (new name).

I would suggest going to the county District Attorney's office and ask them what can be done to avoid the exposure of the new name.
