Legal question about a person that is in a federal penn?

I have someone whom i volunteer for and this person is in prison federal prison . when i look up the case it starts out unted states v the person. and then it tells his story . as i read down it tells what all he was convicted of, and the it will see something like see united states v See United States v. Angiulo ... so does this mean that the two are connected with this crime ?? or does it mean something else ? thank you in advance
