There was an incident with my child in the school system (received 4 x 2 " deep tissue bruises after receiving a school paddling. We are following all of the channels with our local Board of Ed. I do not believe that there was malicious intent by the one who administered the paddling. We are raising our voices about corporal punishment reforment....I have been advised by many that I need to research the history of the teacher that gave the paddlings...that I would find out much more....that there is a reason why he travels so far to teach at our rural school.
This teacher is very unpopular--and it is possible that their comments is more driven to spread gossip--and I want no part of that.
My question is..
If I contact the school board that he originated from, are they legally obligated to tell me anything?
We are in Tennessee

We are trying to change the laws.
We ok'd the paddling...we did not OK a beating.

NO, and without an attorney, you're spinning your wheels. As you probably well know under Tennessee State Law TCA 49-6-4-104, corporal punishment may be used. If you are going to challenge the law, you must challenge it from an aspect of him using it improperly or in a situation where it was not warranted or become an advocate to get the laws changed.
EDIT: If you OKed the paddling and he followed state guidelines, you don't have much of a case. |

You ok'd the paddling of your child, then you consented to their reasonable judgment. Where was the deep tissue bruising on your child? Was in in the buttocks and only the buttocks? Is your child easily bruised when receiving corporal punishment? Since you ok'd the paddling did you ever discuss in detail the methods and extent of paddling that you were willing to accept? Perhaps this was a one time, over zealous punishment which as assumed that was supported by the parents. Is their a need to change the law to achieve your objective? What is your objective since you ok'd the paddling in the first place? I am ramses8p on Yahoo if you would like to discuss this further. |
