He passed away 4 days ago and they did the autopsy and then his parents want them to keep the body so they can fly to the US and decide what they want to do with it. But they need to know how much time they have til they get here.

It depends on the state, but most states have a 10-14 day rule, meaning that within 10 days (or 12, or 14) the body must be disposed of, whether that is through burial or cremation. I don't know of any states that allow for longer than that, and if for some reason it will be longer, the funeral home has to get special permission from the state board that licenses and oversees funeral homes. But in general 10 days is ample time to make necessary flights and/or arrangements. |
