I think that your ideas are excellent but doubt they will ever happen due to the old favourite "human rights" but what about the rights of the man on the street??
Personally, I would bring back public flogging and use murderers - or other criminals who are never going to be freed (ie; rose west, yorkshire ripper) for medical experiments to help research and drug testing.
I would also put anyone over 16 on an ASBO directly into 5 years army service. |

Yeah anything not even 3 meals a day, cigarettes, tv, phone, rugs in their cells. As in some other countries, their meals must be provided for by their friends and families. |

Good question, good comments. Any chance you might run for president?
I agree with your assessments by the way. |

Yes sounds ok to me we have to get tougher on crime the soft short sharp shock hasn't worked we must try to take away the luxury of tv snooker gyms and hope to deterre offenders from repeating the crime.
No tea or coffee just hot or cold water and one meal and one snack (a biscuit) a day. It would be cheaper to keep them inside and they should be made to work harder. |

all sound good but a slight problem with yur punishment for pre-meditated murder. to hand our the punishment would in itslef be a premeditated murder? so you would have an ever lasting circle of murders for the murderers? |

Why not just let the victims or their families decide their fate |

A stay in Afghanistan anywhere but the capital and they would have something to cry about. Don' know if I can go along with hammering some ones hand, but have no objections to your punishments. |

How about 10 years for Tony Blair for being the Prime Minister,,plus another 10 years for marrying Cherie |

Using harsh sentencing as a deterrent presupposes that the offender believes that he will be caught. Most offences are committed without regard to the consequences and without the belief in getting caught - therefore you can make the punishments as bizarre and gruesome as you want. They won't deter someone who doesn't believe they will suffer them.
Indeed, there comes a point in devising such punishments when the offender is ignored and the bloodlust of the person suggesting takes over. Do you think you are coming close to that? |

I agree of all above |

How about a new one: what should we do with welfare moms who give birth at government expense, then throw their kids onto the state after their welfare pans out when the kid turns, what, four years old? I live in a shelter and this a recurring theme. Really opened my eyes to the sick characters out there. |

"4 more years of hard labour", any more of Tony Blair or Gordon Brown is enough punishment for any one
By the way, did you hear about the blonde woman went to the police and cried "I've been Graped, I've been Graped!"
"Don't you mean Raped" replied the officer
"No, there was a bunch of them" |

Pretty extreme but I can sympathise with the sentiment. Definite hard time punishment. Criminals just do time, hang out with other offenders, get out and do it all again. They should suffer, really suffer and be under no illusions that jail is a time wasting exersise until they get out. I would put them in front of victims and victims parents, spouses, children etc and make them answer for their crimes. Show them films of the funerals, make them attend a post mortem of a murder victim. Who knows it may tap into some part of their brain that still has human remorse. |

The idea behind the justice system is to rehabilitate the criminal as well as protect the public. Your suggestions will not rehabilitate the criminal. |
