It is almost impossible for any of us to answer this question honestly, simply because we are not in the situation nor are we facing that possibility. We can only imagine what that would be like. However, after being to hundreds of prisons across the United States, I was an Extradition Agent, all prisons vary from state to state. Some are like a resort, some are terrifying. With that said, I would imagine that I would be horrified and scared to death because if my charges got me that kind of sentence, I know that those that I'm going to be in there with are going to be just as bad if not worse than myself. So which would be better, being put to death, or living in a prison until I die, either by natural causes or by the hands of someone else within the prison. Either one of those choices are going to be impossible to decide. Because regardless, you are going to die on the inside.
I actually went to school with someone that murdered his parents and little brother. He did get natural life without the possibility of parole. He is still in prison and has been there since 1978. So apparently some are able to adjust, and I would guess that once you learn the ins and outs, as well as the precautions, you would adjust to it.
Like I said, an impossible question to answer honestly. |

One day at a time. To look at the eventuality of the situation only points to endless imprisonment.
One would have to have daily goals and purposes to keep the mind active and the spirit calmed. Great time to have God in your life. He will love on you, encourage you, teach you and guide you.
Giving of yourself would be rewarding and also fill time. Perhaps teaching others there that can't read or see well, or tutoring those wanting a GED, or a bible class to bring others to God's love.
As you can see the bottom line is to bring God into this situation and then TRUST HIM to keep you. |

I have to agree with Lisa, the reason someone is sitting in jail is reason enough to not let them out again. |

Optimally, dedicate my life to helping others. If I can't get out, doesn't mean that I can't try helping others do something with themselves for when they get out.
Even those who do very bad things have good inside them. So a person serving life can bring out their good points, as well as helping others become better people.
Of course, I could only so this with God's help.
I'm a Catholic conservative and am strong on law and order. But everyone has the ability to become a better person, regardless of where they are.
I'd probably be depressed for a couple of months initially though. |

Quite frankly, I would have been devastated! And I really feel bad for the ones getting in that position. Granted, most of them have done something to deserve the sentence, but we're all humans and we all make mistakes.
Their life has been ruined, who wouldn't be depressed in a situation like that? |

This means death in prison. Pick a fight with the biggest guy in the joint and get it over with. Shouldn't take more than a day or two. |

I'd probably try to get in good with the warden. Maybe I could help him launder the under-the-table money he gets from building contractors who can't compete with him and his cheap prison labor. Then I would funnel that money into several banks all over town, so that when I escape I could go to Mexico & rebuild a boat & start a fishing charter business. |

I would not have to cope - anyone getting life deserves it...
Why should we or anyone else care what the person recieveing the sentance feels - what about the victim that has to go through life -- how do they feel? |
|

If you can't do the time then don't do the crime.Life should mean life and not being aloud out at weekends and then released in 8-9 years. |

I would first off not do anything to cause this type of sentence. But to cope with it, I would first accept what I had done and then study like crazy and probably spend the rest of my life trying to obtain college degrees so that I would have some type of self satisfaction to keep me living day in and out. |

Dont give up there is always a possible commutation option. do everything the prison tells you too. God can only decide your faith and anyone who doesnt believe you can become a better person is for lack of a better word. STUPID. keep your head up. Get legal advice. |
