I would recommend a good self-defense course as well. Say, you are attacked at 7:30 in the morning in the grocery store parking lot, what would you do? It's recommended that you fight, kick and scream,honk the horn if you can, and make as much noise as you can, they don't want to take the time for a big hassle and may run away. I carry a loud whistle on my keychain. A gun is a pretty good idea if you live in a very dangerous area, but for goodness sakes she doesn't need an UZI!

how would we even know she is carrying it? is it not concealed? does she just walk around waving a gun? if its concealed i don't see how that would scare away an attacker. and if she pulled it out at the wrong time, she is probably more likely to get hurt herself then help her.

Your mom is an idiot. A .454 Casull is suitable for a bear, not a human. She'd have to be 300 pounds to be able to conceal that thing. Shooting a robber/rapist would probably

A) Break her wrist (especially if it's a snub nose monstrosity)
B) Kill the poor guy watching TV in the house 200 feet away
C) Cost her tens of thousands and possibly jail time in court
D) Get her killed if the first shot missed, because a follow up shot will take forever.

I'm all for concealed carry, but please, get an appropriate gun. Proper concealed carry pistols are service caliber rounds, such as 9mm, .45, .40S&W, .357 (Sig or Mag), and even the good old .38 Special. A lower powered gun is better than a gun which could overpenetrate & kill a bystander. The gun you practice with is the gun you should carry, even if it's a .22 If you can't be responsible, DON'T CARRY A GUN!

I think your mother will be fine. Unfortunately, we live in a crazy world and it is very tempting to carry a gun. I don't think anyone will be messing with her and if they try, they will be sorry.

Statistically speaking, by the time a rapist got her, the damage would already have been done.

She is unlike almost every other woman out there. But good for her if she's ready to take one down when they come her way.

But it's also sad that she has to think about this supposed attack 24 hours a day.

Sometime carrying a gun could be dangerous, just imagine someone going to rob your Mon with a knife, this person doesnâ€™t know she is carrying a gun, during the struggle she tries to pull out the gun and the robber notice it, the first thing the robber will do, is to take it away from her and shoot her; Now, what would have been better? A knife stab and her money taken away, or a bullet on her head and her money taken away? In my opinion, I would hide the gun, give the robber the money and try to walk out without any injuries.
