Dazed even defacing a mail box is a federal offense. It is actually considered federal property.

how do you change the mailbox without touching it. What visual image without paint. Do you mean throw a wreath around it, what exactly are you asking. You haven't clarified anything. If you deface it with paint or anything else that is not tampering with the mail which is a federal offense. That is vandalism or defacement of property. Big difference. Tampering with mail is opening the box and taking the mail and violates federal law. Vandalism and defacement are local law issues and depending on the value most often are misdemeanor, unless your defacing or vandalizing a solid gold mailbox.

yes it is still a federal offence even if you do not touch it you are still tampering with it.

Tampering is altering.

If I threw a rock at you and injured you, would that be considered assault? even if I didn't physically lay a finger on you? Yes, indeed it would be considered assault. So whatever you have planned for that mailbox regardless if you physically touch it or not, you can still be held liable for any damages, altering, or tampering.

Have you heard of something called VANDALISM? If it isn't your property, don't touch it in any way, shape or form....unless you like the idea of a criminal record! And in case you think that no one would ever find out, sooner or later someone would squeal and testify against the rest of you for an easier deal.

DON'T DO whatever it is you are planning...no matter how much fun you think it will be...or how sure you won't be caught. Will it be fun to be arrested and have your mugshot and finger prints taken? Will it still be fun if you can't get into the job and/or college of your choosing because you have a record? Will it still be fun if you and/or your parents are sued? Will it be fun if you end up in juvie/jail? And will it be fun explaining to your parents what you did when they pick you up at the jail?

Let me repeat myself...DON'T DO whatever it is you are planning!
