Marijuana should be legalized?

Do you understand how the "war on drugs" works? The government, in direct contradiction to the "inalienable rights", that we were suppose to have "way back when", uses this as a means to make money off of it's citizens. How? By putting people in jail for using these drugs. They are also angry when drug dealers operate on the "black market", meaning that they can't control other people's money. It all boils down to money. It's not about any moral issue, or fear of "pot smoking maniacs" who pose as a menace to society. These laws were originally targeted at minorities to keep the prison industrial complex going. They know that minorities are often discriminated against in employment, and set for a life of "crime" due to a horrid education system, so they set them up for the fall. If there were no minorities, or any third world countries that could benefit from the sell of illegal substances, then the time and laws wouldn't be so heavy.

Think about the hypocrisy of it all. Alcohol and cigarettes, which are drugs(depressants and stimulants), kill more people then any drug. You have beer advertised at football games, nascar, and any other event you could think of. But smoke a blunt, and all of a sudden, because of the war on drugs notorious propaganda campaign, your the criminal of criminals. If they feel that marijuana is so "dangerous", then they should also outlaw cigarettes and alcohol, but they would make as much money from that, now would they?

People who disagree .... do you know what the penalty for selling alcohol was during prohibition days ? - PRISON... or worse...you got wacked by the mob for coming up short.

Should be legal, and every person currently in jail for posession and selling marijuana should be pardoned immediately. All marijuana offenses should be wiped from everyones records.

i think everyone needs to grow up about weed. Its not bad - it's not good. It's kinda just there. At least it doesnt kill like smoking and drinking does. Some people smoke marijuana and are succesful, and some people become such slaves to it.

Marijuana is harmless. Those who say it's a gateway drug are only saying that because they don't want to take a blame for bad parenting. All my friends and I smoked in high school and now I own a business, my friend is a well off CPA, another is a Leed AP, another one is a chemist, And another one is in video production. The list goes on and on. I've done more damage to myself and relationships hitting the sauce then I have the smoke.

I am for legalizing marijuana, all their tests are bull they make them do cognitive tests while stoned to prove its damage, its less toxic than breathing pure oxygen, it has 200 chemicals in it broccoli has twice that, and those chemicals can be filtered with a bong vaporizer or eaten, they say it causes cancer but is used in treating cancer which makes no sense, less harmful to lungs than cigarettes and less damaging than alcohol and alcohol has no medical purpose its just receational, less damaging to brain than alcohol and damage done is recoverable once the persons system is clean. LEGALIZE!!!

of course it should be illegal, four decades and trillions of dollars on the war on drugs has been a success. worked perfectly, just like prohibition. good to see nobody smoking there.

it's also stopped lots of cartel violence here in MÃ©xico, nothing bad ever happens.

here federal law says up to 250 grams is legal, but local laws usually have a lower limit. people walk the street getting high.

yet we do not have a serious drug problem like over there.

No it shouldn't be. Especially in this country (USA). I work in a prison in ohio where the inmate population is over 53K. Just looking at what people in this country get their selves into while under the influence of alcohol causes enough trouble. Then follow illegal drugs. Making marijuana more readily available than what it is would be just adding another log to the fire. As far as your uncle is concerned I guess crime really doesn't pay.

Even if it was legal, he would still be in violation of the law for selling it like he did. If it was legal, only authorized people could sell.

Should he be punished? Yes. And he should be punished if it was legal and he sold it on the street. I can't go around selling alcohol, or I can get arrested and sent to jail for it.

*EDIT* - I'm in favor for legalizing it, but that does not mean I'm in favor of letting anyone sell it like they do now. If they legalize it, it will almost certainly be with heavy restrictions and regulations like they have now with alcohol and tobacco.

*EDIT2* - Also, just because a law may be "unjust" or "unfair" does not mean it's OK to break that law. You can go ahead and break the law for protest all you want, but just be prepared to pay the consequences if you are caught.

Selling an illegal substance is against the law no matter what. You can get in trouble for selling prescription drugs if done so illegally. No, marijuana will never be legalized but small amounts of possession for use might be decriminalized just to open up prisons and jails for more violent and heinous offenders.

posters here are avoiding the real fact here..you're uncle knew it was illegal to sell pot but he did so anyway..so whose fault was that??? the governments??? i think not!! you post smokers seem to believe that you're exempt from following the law simply because you disagree with the law.it's people like you who belong in jail.//selling pot?? in most states it's illegal..don't do it.when you go to jail don't blame the ones in power ,as you're the one breaking the law..it's just that simple..or has smoking pot lamed your wisdom!
