Medicaid SS Disability check?

I;m 18 years old and need to get operated on my knee. I have medicaid now but can I qualify for the disability benefits? Does my age matter? Will my medicaid affect it?

If your doctor says you are 100% disabled and will be unable to work in 1 year, you will qualify for SSI which is Supplemental Security Income disability.
Also you might qualify for SSA which is Social Security Disability income if you have worked and paid into the SSA system. If you did work when you where 16 to 18, you might have enough quarters (coverage) to be eligible for SSA. You can also get SSA benefits from your parents if any of them is getting it and your disability begun before age 18.
Medicaid is the health coverage given to those qualifying for SSI, so it does not affect your getting any benefits.
Just go to the Social Security Office to apply.

An operation on your knee will not qualify you for disability unless it will prevent you from working any type of job. Disability sometimes takes years to qualify for. Your knee will be healed long before you would get any payment.

disability benefits require you to have worked for a number of years and paid into social security. You need to contact an attorney that works on these types of cases for good advice.
