Morally, what is to you the difference between a fetus and a baby?

Note that the type of fetus in question does not yet have a functional nervous system.
Additional Details
Assume nothing about the asker; please just answer the question. I value your opinion.

There is no moral difference there is a legal difference which allows people to legally kill a baby that is unborn.

None. A fetus is at the stage of human life it is supposed to be at that time.

A fetus is a baby which hasn't been born yet. Still human.

A fetus (your word, not mine) is a human being starting to grow inside his or her mother. My words for it are baby or child.

- A fetus is the developing new human inside a woman's body

- A baby has received the most precious gift of all... a mother's choice to provide life!

Erwin B
A fetus is in the womb, developing into a human child. A baby is fully developed (hopefully) and has been pushed, or taken, from the womb.
A fetus requires the sustenance provided through its direct connection to the mother. A baby can survive, with care from others, without the mother.

Morally, the difference is that a foetus is not self-aware. Nor are babies the moment they're born, but birth still makes a good place to draw a line. Err on the side of caution and all that.

Morally speaking, there is no difference.

Herald
There is no difference in terms of the value of its life. A functioning nervous system has nothing to do with a moral position, unless it is used in a vain attempt to dismiss the cruelty of the abortion procedure that might be employed to end its life - but then it is not a matter of morality concerning the 'fetus'. It is instead an attempt to dismiss the guilt associated with the destruction of ending a life on the part of the people who would enable or support such a practice and seek some kind of redemption in their conscience for the shame associated with such a 'moral' position.

A fetus is a LIVE baby waiting to be born.....It is a CHILD not a choice

Golden
In humans, the fetal stage of prenatal development begins about eight weeks after fertilization, when the major structures and organ systems have formed, and lasts until birth.

trying to overlay morality onto biology is not rational.

The way I see it; a fertilized egg is a life. It will grow everything him or her needs by the natural course of time.

Also, Also, do not fall to Give Me Liberty's dangerous rhetoric. His argument in his blog is that another newborn baby into this World adds to the food and money shortage and therefore causes increased death. Therefore women should rip their baby's body apart at will. This argument not only an immoral position that promotes murder, but is exemplifies the absurdedness that he accuses the pro life movement of having. Plus, it is a white flag position; for he is advocating a position of not even attempting to find a way for EVERYONE to live. There are charities such as ABC Ministry http://www.abcministry.org.za/Vision.htm , and SOS Children's Villages http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk/c... that help unwanted babies in third world countries and help them to find loving homes. As well as Lifecall http://www.lifecall.org/shelters.html who do the same within the United States. All these charities need is more funding/donations and they can save more lives. Then more people born into the World won't further impact the lives of the living.

A baby is a living being, capable of survival on it's own.

A fetus is a growing organ. Without the support of it's host, it cannot survive. The definition we use to determine life does not apply to a fetus.

Robert
A fetus is a fetus.

It is not a "baby". It is not a "person".

People keep throwing the word "baby" around and its preventing those who still think with their emotions from thinking rationally.

At conception a fetus has only a 70 percent chance of living. The risk is not man made, it is natural. So if a person believes that the fetus is a child, and invests money or time in "saving" its life, then it wastes money 70% of the time. The same can be said for emotional investments and legal investments in a fetus. That is the primary difference in a fetus and a baby. A baby has a very high chance of living and is worth the investment. Investing in fetuses is very risky and will likely lead to the death of not only the fetus, but another human as well. Why kill others to save a fetus?
Today there are millions of citizens that will die due to lack of medical care or in accidents etc. If we spend money to save fetuses, then money will not be available to take care of our other obligations. The money spent on saving the fetus is wasted 70 percent of the time. That wasted money could have saved many lives. Spending money on fetuses causes there to be no money to save regular people. People like you, your children, your parents and other people in the world.
Were I to spend the money to feed my children to gamble with a 30% chance of winning then I would be irresponsible. If my actions lead to the starving to death of my children, then I could be charged with murder. The same is true with people that attempt to save fetuses. They spend the money that should go to supporting their kids, the elderly and the poor and waste it 70% of the time trying to save a fetus. Then when one of these people die, they are no less a murderer than I would be for starving my children to death.
