Moving out at 18 to live with fiance?
Find answers to your legal question.

Moving out at 18 to live with fiance?

I'm 17 atm, I turn 18 on December 16, yet I graduate in June (2009) or April. When I turn 18 (during winter break) I'm moving to Florida (from Arizona) to live with my fiance, I would do it now but I'm afraid my parents may be able to call the police and force me back?

However, that aside, when I turn 18, is there anything they can do, at all (legally) --besides tying me down with chains-- to prevent me from leaving when I am 18, assuming I have enough money to do so, do not need their support, can afford my own airfare, etc and have a place to live for free until I get on my feet, etc?

And if they cannot, what would be the best course of action to do this? I would assume to get a copy of my transcripts from my current school, my SSID, any info I need, mail my transcripts to my fiance to enroll me in a school (a week before I leave) and purchase tickets, take what I need, and fly there to start my life. That's my plan so far, please inform me on the possibilities..

If you're 18, there's nothing they can do. You can ask your school for transcripts but most schools want them mailed directly or sealed in an envelope. Be sure you have a copy of your birth certificate, your actual social security card, a proper ID, and address. Good luck.

If you're 18, you have the right to move away from home without your parent's consent. I hope you're making the right decision.

This all sounds very romantic but why not wait until you graduate and move then? It would be easier on your move. Also, think about the "what ifs". What if you get pregnant before you get on your feet? What if something where to happen to where you and your fiancee are no longer together. Plan more that just ahead and don't burn your bridges with your family.

First off... How old is your fiance... And I don't think it would be a good idea to move in with him at such an early age because you guys aren't married yet and you don't know his habits and what nots... You would be happy at first but then things would go down the drain if you guys disagree on something and he might tell you to move out before you guys even get married. Remember... You're only engaged anything can happen. Not to jinx you but one of you might think that its either too early to get married or that you guys aren't right for each other. Think about it, what if you get pregnant early...

And who is going to support you when you get there. If you continue in school which that is what it sounds like, there are many expenses which I don't thing you have thought of books, clothing, food, roof over your head, medical. I don't thing you have thought everything through. Who does your fiance live with? This is pretty serious and I would recommend you talk to a councillor. They can be impartial and help you get a clear view of what you are about to do.

I lived in Arizona until i was 19, then i moved to Florida.

Florida is great, moving here is the best thing i have ever done with my life. But dont do it for your bf-i came here for school.

Dedicating yourself to someone Else's ideals is a bad decision. you are so young you have the chance to be great

i say let him move to Florida, and you grow and develop all the potential you can.

Once you are 18 they are not allowed to keep you from moving away. Personally though, you two are too young to make such a huge decision like this and minors should not be engaged.

Prediction: You will be divorced, poor, and probably have a dependant that will haunt you the rest of your life before you are old enough to buy a beer legally.

You are making a life-changing mistake. I can guarantee it.

I dont know you but pleaseee! plz plz dont do that you just blooming your no ready for that. finish high school and wait 2 year minimum before you get money to get your own place. Tons of girls go missing a year because of bad choices like that.

What you do with your life is your own decision.
If you were my sister or brother I would advice you keep saving for college, not for a Fiance.

Do something for yourself. Most marriages end up in divorce.
Sad but true.
Your parents can't do anything to you once you turn 18.

Why don't you apply for college or at least community college?

Once you turn 18 you can enter Comm College and maybe get a student job and leave your parents house. You can always go back and finish high school next summer.
Many CC units can be applied to your high school requirements.

That if you must leave your rents house, What is so bad about them?

I assume ur have problems at home...
So, to cut to the chase...jis write a letter and inform the police that u r not running away...U r leaving bla bla

Are things that bad at home that you can't wait until you graduate high school? Once you complete HS then go live with you boyfriend but things aren't always what you want them to be. You are a Sagittarius and at your age you will do what you want to do. It's best for your parents to let you go if you really want to leave. But remember life is very short and parents won't always be around. Think before you leap.

de_valera1921
legally, there's no issue. you won't listen to the people telling u this but you're making a HUGE mistake. You'll be in a position where if things don't work out, you're not going to have anyone or anything to fall back on. Plus, marriages following cohabitation are much more likely to fail according to statistics. I hope yours is one of the exceptions though. GL

At 18 you can do what you want to do without your parent's approval. However as a lot of people here correctly advise you are better off not moving him with him. Graduate high school and go to a university far a way. A much better and probably safer choice.

they cant do anything once you 18 and the school will give you your transcripts when you ask for them...But your young don't settle down so early trust me you will regret it if hes the one then he will Waite for you and let you have a life!! I'm a mom of 4 married to my b/f since high school I never found myself hes all I know and I don't want to see anyone loose out in life!! but its your life i just hope you know your young slow down!!
good luck

Since life is not a straight line to happiness, some gratuitous advice.

Move slowly and cautiously.

While your parents cannot legally keep you from doing your thing, what you want to consider is what happens if you and BF split.

You want to leave the house on good terms. Don't burn bridges.

You cannot go back.

Do you know what Florida is like at this time of year?

At least in Zona, it's not humid.

You write very well.

Once you are 18, your parents can't hold you back. The chains would be illegal, too. ;<)

My son moved out at 18. He traded his dependence on his mother for dependence on his girlfriend.

fones (above) said it well. Have a detailed plan for what you will do if and when various things don't go according to plan A. Moving so far and becoming so dependent on your fiancée will put you in a very precarious position, particularly if you are headed for South Beach in Miami.

You would be doing yourself and your fiancée a favor if you move out on your own, finish school, prove to yourself that you can live alone successfully, and then go to her as an equal, not as a little boy running away. Sorry, but I'm old enough to be your uncle.

You won't believe this either now, but when you are a man of 22 and have seen more of life outside the home, you and your fiancée might not fit the way you seem to now. I'm saying these things because I get the impression that you are not running to something as much as you are running from something.

Keep a line open to your parents, perhaps through a family friend. You probably don't believe it now, but no one loves you the way they do, even if they can't show it right. Home is where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in. God bless you.

You will be 18 and a legal adult, so no there wouldn't be anything they could do as long as you wait until after your birthday.

It sounds to me like you have everything well planned and are going about this in a mature manner, so good luck!
