If someone murders then they should be murdered. However, if it was in self defense and their life was endangered, then they should be set free.
And eye for an eye only ends up leaving the entire world blind. |

Kill them dont let them use our tax dollars to hold them in jail where they have comforts. If they do stay in jail they should be tortured. |

The death penalty is better than life in prision, because when a person is sentenced to death, they are sentenced to die at a specific time, on a specific date, at a specific place. Life in prison means that nobody knows when the inmate is going to die. |

I think they should be hung on the courthouse lawn! |

I'm against the death penalty. We should show the murderer the value of the life that they just took. Then they should spend the rest of their life making it up to those lives. They should be an absolute slave to do whatever the victims family wants them to do for the rest of their lives. Get A job and support the family if they killed a head of a household. At any time they don't feel like doing it they could have the option of taking their own life, In the same method they killed their victim. Pending of course a thorough psychological exam |

when they have only killed one person i say 20 years minimum depending on the cruelty....if somebody was really really cruel id give them life....2 or more id give life....im kinda torn on the death penalty just because i think that i would rather somebody who killed someone close to me have to live the rest of their life in prison....death wouldnt make them suffer long enough |

It is according to what type of murder it is...there are several different types...1st degree felony murder...yes- I feel that a person should receive the death penalty. For this was a horrible pre-meditated crime...2nd degree murder...I feel that time in prison would be justifiable...for this is a crime that was committed but it was committed out of passion...say...a man killing his wife's lover after catching them in bed together in his home..Involuntary manslaughter...no the death penalty would not be justifiable...
You see there are different types of murder and some offenses deserve to be a case for the death penalty!
I am more for child molesters and rapist receiving the death penalty. I view it as...when a child has been molested or rape...their life has been taken away from them...a person who hurts someone small or old or mentally handicapped deserve to be put to death.
I am totally for capital punishment...if the crime deserves death! |

It's hard to say i mean i know if someone killed someone i loved or cared about ...my first reaction would to want them dead but then again if they rot in jail i might be a lil happier... because they will suffer in there having to think about what they did for the rest of their life.... and im sure if i had killed someone i would much rather just die then have to always have that on my mind..so why give them that peace of mind....... and also i just wanted to say its also alot more expensive to actually kill someone then it is to keep them in jail for the rest of their life |

Death penalty is the only solution, if proved beyond doubt.
IN a country of a billion+ people. The government just cant keep piling up all the terrorists, murderers, rapists in jails for life terms.
A murderer should be hanged! |

Hell, I think we should bring back chain gangs, hard labor and torture. Might make peolpe think twice before they murder, rape, molest or some other heinous crime |

Kill them. Don't waste tax dollars to house and feed them or give them medical care. Don't waste tax dollars for guards to guard them. Killing them will solve the problem once and for all. An eye for an eye. It is also a 100% measure that they will never do what they do again. It is also an example to other would-be murderers that death is what they will DEFINITELY get if they murder...no two ways about it. |

Personally, I don't want to pay thousands of dollars every year to house and feed murderers and predators. I think the world would be a better and safer place, and society would be better off as a whole if we executed all repeat predator offenders.
On the flip-side, I couldn't be responsible for taking someone else's life. I couldn't pull the switch myself, so I can't blindly ask someone else to. |

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the execution of a murderer - let the punishment fit the crime. In fact, there are statistics that suggest each execution prevent future murders (keep in mind that this is different from saying that the death penalty itself prevents future murders; there's not much evidence of that), see the paper at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=186988. Still, I believe there are reasons to choose life in prison (without parole) instead.
1) As someone mentioned already, there are documented cases of death row inmates being found innocent. Check out http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?did=412&scid=6
2) There's some serious problems with racial discrimination. For instance, if the defendent is black and the victim is white, the chance of getting the death penalty is significantly higher than if the defendent is white and the victim is black. Check out http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?scid=45&did=539#Study%201
If we sentence people to death, it should be for their crime and not their race.
3) Life in prison is actually substantially cheaper than execution, mostly because of increased court costs for death penalty trials. For evidence, check out http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?did=108&scid=7
These problems should be fixed before we are ready to use the death penalty. |

no, they dont deserve to die. but i do believe that they should be imprisoned until their last day of their life, because the fact that they have murdered someone before, who knows if they can or cant do it again. |

they deserve the death penalty!
but its kind of tricky if you think in another way.. shouldnt we use other non-violent means to teach ppl violence is no good?
just a thought.. still im for death penalty coz murderers went too far.. |

it depends on the crime. was it in self defense or was it cold blood murder. there are a lot of things to factor. i don't necessarily think someine should die for killing someone else but they should rot in jail and think about what they did 4 the rest of their life or until they kill themself. but i do think baby killers should die! |

I do not think that murderers should get the death penalty but not for the same reason as you. I think that the death penalty might actually be a form of release for them as many people would rather die than serve a life sentence. If the death penalty contained some form of torture or public humiliation like in the old days then they would deserve it.
One of the other things about the death penalty is the (un)certainty of a person's guilt. If someone is found guilty and then sentenced to prison time but later found innocent then they can resume their life whereas if they were killed, it's irreversible. |

I think that life imprisionment is the best punishment. The criminal will die a million deaths before the end of his/her life. |

Hmmm..well going to jail isnt that awful anymore if you ask me..lets compare
you have ended someone life. they will no longer be able to see their family, breathe, eat, feel. they are gone FOREVER
while someone freely sits in a cell eats, drinks, and sleeps.
The death penalty serves them justice. and if we would inforce things like that more often then people wouldnt be soo prone to do things like that. there must be consequences for your actions. |

NO ONE deserves to DIE!!!
Murderers should be sentenced to LIFE-IN-PRISON so they can ROT-IN-PRISON for their CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!!! |
