One Big Awfull Mistake America

Your employer is obligated to give you your original position back nothing more or less. What you can do is either work full time or find another job.

It sounds like you should find a new job. If you cannot work full-time at your job and they have no part-time positions they are not obligated to find you a position. They have to take every possible step to accomodate you, but if they are unable to do so, you are not guaranteed a job. You would be allowed into your old position as a full-timer though.

Quit. Your employer is required to keep your position available as is, not modify it.

If you have an approved disability, and are on FMLA leave for it, you may negotiate to return to your job part time. Your employer is under no obligation to create a "New" part time position from your old full time position. They may allow you to return part time.

If they do not have a part time position for you, you may be eligible for retraining due to your disability.

Contact the appropriate state or local disability office.
