Several people will disagree with me, but I 'll have to say the dad was right in doing that.
If the dad had not beaten him, then he would continue to spill the milk several times and apologize every time he did that - the kid will never learn NOT to make the mistake again. |

Not a beating!! If the kid did it on purpose maybe a whipping but not if he said he was sorry!! |

Your neighbor is an abusive father. What he did to his boy should be reported to the proper authorities. |

TURN THIS MAN IN IMMEDIATELY.
BEATING WITH A CURTAIN ROD IS UNACCEPTABLE.
HE WILL CONTINUE TO TO THIS IF YOU DON'T STOP HIM.
THIS GUY NEEDS A LESSON HE WON'T FORGET... |

It is never ok to beat a child with anything, especially for spilling milk on the floor. Although a normal spanking for other things more serious should be ok so they know who is the boss, but with the palm of your hand. |

dammmmnnnnnn!!!!!!!(excuse my language) geez!!!! wat is with him!?????u don't hit ur kid with a rod just because he spilled milk!!!how old was the kid?????thats child abuse man!!!!! thats not right! |

No, that is not correct to punish a kid on that scale. A spanking on the rear or something similar is ok in my eyes, but that is assault with a weapon. |

NO!! As if he has never spilled anything in his life. To me that is child abuse. Me personally, I think he should be reported to the family and chilsdren services. We all have bad days or can lose our tempers, but that was totally uncalled for! |

the phrase "let he who has never sinned cast the first stone "comes to mind-his father went way over the top-he attacked him with a weapon for what was little more than an accident-he should be reported. |

MYOB. What are you the child abuse police? It says in the bible spare the rod spoil the child. Now if he was whacking hm with a baseball bat, or a coat hanger, or a belt. But come on a curtain rod is thin and hollow I bet it would bend before inflicting any damage. Its probably the perfect tool for spanking your kids. If he didn't the kid would be robbing your house at 18. |

No its not okay to beat his son for that little matter!!! I think yelling at his son is OK but beating him is just too dramatic. |

My question is what does his ethnicity have to do with anything.
You should report your neighbor to CPS. |

When school starts you may want to notify the boy's school that you've witnessed the father abusing the son.
Calling CPS is iffy. Parents are allowed to discipline their children.
Rather than report abuse, you may just want to be very aware of anything considered to be a domestic disturbance. As in, I'm not sure what's going on over there, but a child is screaming.
It's ok to call the police. If you don't want your neighbor to know you reported, which he probably figures anyway, just state as much to the police.
Talk with other neighbors and have them be aware, just in case.
Alert the apartment maintenence. Maybe they can go in and check the smoke detectors or something if you suspect the child is being hurt. Ask if they'd mind if you called. |

That's what is called excessive corporal punishment and constitutes child abuse. Call CPS. |

i think a curtain rod is a bit too much but there has to be some serious consenquences since that's the only way kids learn.
giving time outs doesnt do anything and kids get used to it. |

Sounds like you have a problem with "Indians." It's never ok to strike a child with a weapon. Why are you on this site instead of calling CPS? |

Because the government doesn't fully control the development of its youth, it is up to the Parent's to decide how/when a child should be punished and by what accord.
I would have to agree with the first poster that a sense of responsibility for actions is required to be taught by all. Otherwise, you can simply repeat the offense, use the same excuse, and get out free.
Eventually it will come to the point where no one will actually raise their own children but have to send them all to government programs so everyone will have equal opportunity and be taught equally to make up their own minds. Creating non-unique individuals with no sense of true freedom. |
