Can income support just look into his bank account without asking and if they can does it matter that his brother has given him cash for a birthday present ?

They cant look into his bank but they can ask him to provide statements for any dates they require, if he fails to provide - this will prove he has something to hide and they can stop his benefit and believe me they can . |

The DWP, police and any other authority has the rights to enter any-ones bank account without your permission. And for Seadog saying why don't he get a job, there may be reasons why he is on the dole. Disability, Redundancy, etc. Think about the reasons why he is claiming income support before shouting off your mouth. |

a small savings account of a few hundred or so....
you probably should have just handed it to him or

Unfortunately civil servants from all departments now have the "right" to snoop into every aspect of your private life, including your bank account. But tell him not to worry, if he has less than £3000 in his account its OK. If they hassle him about it (unlikely) then its just a present from his brother. |
