Yes! But if Tesco's was a brothel it would be a whole new ballgame. |

at 17 you can work full time even over time so it is legal. you should be proud if she works that much |

Yep sad but true. No wonder we as a nation are falling behind. |

Yes, as long as it isn't before a school day or she isn't working too many hours. |

I believe it is legal, depending on the state. When I worked at Target and was under 18, they would only work me until 10pm. |

Join the club... Sainsbury is worse... and they pay less... ask my son! |

she is not allowed to work over 40 hours a week.
however, companies are allowed to keep their employees late.
it may seem unfair and ridiculous however, if you talk to her manager, you might be able to work something out. good luck. |

yes it is they can work at age 16 as long as they have proper id. |

check her working papers, the rules should be on them. |

Yeah its fine! She's 17 - old enough to look after herself! Dont worry - many 17 year old's work those hours. |

viscount-deffenstruction

Yes , In the UK she can work any hours that are within the legal limits for an adult from age 16. |

This is perfectly legal during the summer months. However, once school starts it's a different story. |

Yes.
When I was in high school I was only few hours shy of working a full time job. |

I work for Tesco, your daughter is never at work till 11pm. I was wondering too how she is paying for her car? |

yes and 3 nights a week is hardly slave labour just filling shelves and tapping on a check out till. McDonalds employees work far more intensively and less appreciated. |

I belive so, but if she is wanting to do it, then let her. As long as her school is not affected |

IF IN THE UK:
Yes the Law states under 18's can ONLY work till 11pm past this is breaking the law. And also only allowed to work 3 nights a week also other than voluntary over time. hope this helps :-D |

I am sure that Tesco`s know the employment law and act accordingly. If you or your daughter don`t like the hours change them. Tell her to have a word with the personal manager. Bare in mind her full shifts have to be covered so I wouldn`t ask if she can finish 1 hour early as it would be unreasonable of them to find someone to work for 1 hour. But you could ask if she can work 2 shifts don`t forget the less money she earns you may have to make up |

Simmy

Yes it is legal. As long as she is getting paid well and the working enviroment is safe then so be it. |

Danielle J
If she dosen't have a problem with it then let her work. I don't know if it is legal, but since she is 17 I seriously doubt it is illegal. |

Fraid so, don't feel sorry for her at least she has a job.
Why in my day, children aged 6 were sent up chimneys. LOL |

If I remember correctly from when I worked at a cinema, I think the 17 year olds could work no later than 11pm or was it 10pm? |

Laurel
its summer, so it doesn't matter of the time because she doesn't have school in the morning. As long as she gets a break if she works more than 5 hours. when school starts she cant work past 11 on school nights |

powhound
I teach high school, and I know lots of kids that work past 11pm on school nights. Legal? I wish it wasn't, but it happens. I think most employers will be reasonable if asked to reschedule the hours though. Has your daughter tried to talk to the manager about this? |

If its on the weekends yes. If not, then local laws may apply. In Los Angeles schools, you can't technically work after 10pm even if your 18 and your still in high school. |

charleymac
Yes, if she is working less than 48 hours a week overall. She is old enough to work full time and doesn't do enough night hours to fall under the night shift rules.
She isn't a baby - I was doing something similar aged 17 while studying full time during the day. |

I guess it depends on what time she starts. I used to work that late when I was in High School. |
