My friend is due in December but shes about to go back to prison for parole violation..can i get custody?

My bestfriend just found out shes pregnant, and shes due sometime in December according to conception date. She got out on parole March 2nd, and got preg like shortly after and violated her parole like 2 weeks before she got pregnant so we were wondering if I could say Im her cousin and get the baby instead of it going to foster care? She has family but they are all crazy and she doesn't want them to have her child so we wanna know if i can get the baby when she has it and say im her cousin. I'll be taking care of it until she gets out which may be anytime between August 17th-April 2011, so we're hoping for the august date so she'll be out when she gives birth in Dec.

Anyone have good advice?

She can arrange to give you guardianship of the child while she is in jail. You do NOT have to lie and say you are cousins - she can WILLFULLY GRANT GUARDIANSHIP to you!

It is really simple - go tot court and file it NOW since she will be in prison when she delivers - or whatever - that is how I read it. Anyway - don't wait - go make the arrangements NOW

The SAME thing happened with my goddaughter - and no - I am not a blood relative - but all that was needed was the GUARDIANSHIP papers signed by the mother. I kept my goddaughter for 3 years - and she took guardianship back when she was released from prison.

Note - custody is different - you must use the term guardianship

Get mom's approval in advance, the state really doesn't want to get involved but once in you have to play by their rules.
