Your friend's an idiot |

LOL! That is called rationalizing, and that is what criminals do to convince themselves that they are not doing anything wrong. But consider this: even the big companies factor in shoplifting into the cost of their goods. The fact that nimrods like this steal makes it so that when you DO buy something legally it is that much more expensive. What is more, if he cared about you, he wouldn't do something that could easily land him in jail (the more he does it, the more likely they'll put him away for it)... or possibly land YOU in jail for being an accomplice. In the end, however, you probably can't convince him. He thinks what he thinks. I know you don't want to hear this, but the best thing to do is to stop being this person's friend. He's a bad friend. If he sees there is a REAL consequence that he actually cares about (losing you), maybe he'll stop. But even then... it's a big maybe. |

They do miss the things. It's called inventory. I'd steer clear of this "friend." Nothing good is going to come of this friendship. |

He's making excuses and he's a clepto! If large companies won't miss it, then people he's around won't miss certain things they have either. A thief is a thief and stealing is wong. |

your friend is the reason we pay higher prices. Tell them thanks, just think if we all decided to do this. |

Nothing. He is a thief, and will not stop until he is in jail somewhere.
The big corporations are scum. Their greed has led this nation to disaster, both by exporting the manufacturing jobs that allowed our middle class to buy the goods we produced and by failing to reinvest a portion of the profits in their own infrastructure until the plants fell apart.
Stealing from them is nonetheless against the law. It drives up the prices of the good we should not buy from these thieves anyway. I suspect from my experience with others however, that your friend would steal the thorny crown from Christ Himself if he could get away with it. The rest is all just rationalization.
Find a new friend. This person is not worthy of your time. |

Major companies often use labour from under developped countries.
I'm not quite sure what else you could use to convince him.
It's more just the concept of stealing that's bad. It's just unethical.
Some people would see it as "if you're willing to steal from a big company, you might eventually be willing to steal anything". |

I don't think there is anything you can say. You can't reason with crazy people. I wouldn't associate with this person anymore. This person might end up getting you in trouble. |

just don't talk to him, avoid him. anyone with the belief that stealing is okay is ignorant and dangerous. |

Your friend is a putz. Stealing anything from a store results in store shrink (loss). It comes off of the stores overall profitability and negatively impacts the store/company. It creates job loss and results in higher prices on items. In the extreme it can result in stores and possibly the company shutting down. |

Stealing from them is not wrong. Those people make at least triple my income then they send their kid to college and keep the cycle going. I know we need poor people but some make way to much money. |

stealing is wrong. the only thing is that when stealing depending on what that person stole will get charged on depending how many times that person has done it. for example if it was the first time they will let it go and put it as a "petty theft" which is like taking from a property that is under $500. if stolen police can do a search warrant (ordered by court) on the description of that person. then he will be sentance to go to jail then go to court, not for a long period of time.now if it continues then the judge will put maximum penalty on that person and they wil end up paying for what they have stolen. if they didnt learn their lesson the first time. sooner or later if not now your friend could get convicted and will end up paying every cent to the store, and the court, and the attorney who is going to help him out. so tell your friend that as long as he is not caught thats his problem on whether he want to or not. he should know the consequence behind that. shoplifting from major companies is wrong because for exampe if he visits that place often he is on camera and the company will do an overview on whats on the shelves or on stock maybe report it and just keep that item on the look out. well, hope this helps! |

i think you should STOP being friends with this guy... Sounds to me like he's on his way to robbing a bank or something... this guy is just bad news... get away from him. |

What if everybody did that? What would happen? If everybody who when to the store that day decided to steal something, would they miss those items? |

The companies can have you arrested and put in jail and according to penal code it is considered a crime and hence wrong.
Unless he is in a showing of Les Miserables and he needs bread to live, stealing is wrong! |

Why are you friends with this person and why do you think you can rationalize with a moron? |

Your friend is remorseless. I don't think there's anything you can do. He's got to learn things the hard way. Wait till one day he steals from the wrong type of people and he gets beaten up or have his hands chopped off then probably he'll learn why stealing is bad. |

He will move up to the big time when he gets charged with a felony. When that happens pack him a going away package of toiletries and KY Jelly. |
|

its like,makeda here!
 |
Hmm... that's a big problem, indeed.
Tell him that one day it's big companies, the next it's anything he can get his hands onto!
You can also threaten him to turn him in... even if you won't.
You can tell him that you will not be influenced by him, and stay away from him for a couple of days.
Tell him all the consequences that come with stealing.
I hope this works! Good luck! |

He stands in front of security or a judge and says this nonsense and they let him go? If he's been caught several times, he knows it's wrong. He should be sent to jail to teach him a lesson. I don't think there's anything you can say. His parents should be getting him help. |
