My neighbor put up video cameras pointed at my house and keeps monitoring my every move. Invasion of privac?

They are motion activated, and he lives a few hours from here. He has logs of everything we do wrong, and keeps calling the cops. Mind you this is parking a truck and trailer in my side yard that boarders a power companys property. Riding a four wheeler around the yard with no helmet, and just stupid stuff. He is completely psycho. He has logs with dates and times of when we do what, and he can monitor them from his house. He said if we keep giving him hand gestures he would turn everything into the cops. The only place we did that was standing in our drive way. Really, Isn't this invasion of privacy? They are pointed right at my house. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Spend a couple of bucks on a Lawyer on this one. It seems very much that it's done for harassment purposes.

I would encourage him to turn the film into the cops. Hand gestures from the drive way are not illegal in any form, unless you are implying that you will do harm to him. Simply flipping the bird is not illegal. If he turns in hours of tape of you guys making faces at his camera, the cops will know they are dealing with a crazy person, and will be more likely to ignore him at later dates.

Of course if you want to go the not so nice (and maybe not so legal) route a high powered laser shot into the lens will burn out the chip on the camera. Get a green laser from ebay.

But he'll have the film of you doing that so.

Talk to a Lawyer though, this rings of harassment (the constant contact with police, unfortunately not the filming).

*edit* I forgot, if he publishes any of his film though (like putting it on youtube) then he needs to get a model release form signed by you or any one he's showing. If he doesn't you can sue and maybe make some money out of him. If of course you are the subject of the film. If you are 'incidental' then no luck, again talk to a lawyer about this.

Yes, it's an invasion of privacy. Unfortunately, in most states it is legal to have a surveillance camera.

A short bit of research found this:

A strong infrared light attached to the side of the house with the beam shining in the direction of the camera will block any thing behind the lamp from being captured on tape. It's invisible.

Point this at his camera and it will be rendered useless (it's a bit pricey but might be worth it):

Laws are different in every state, country, county and city. For the most part, if he can see it he can record it. Anything you do where someone can see it lawfully is not private. Get some curtains.

Its probably harassment. But if its not. What you should do is get ski mask. Come from a different location to his house so he doesn't know its you. Break all his cameras then run. Then go back to your house. Don't go straight to your house, in case there is a camera you don't know about. When you keep on braking hundreds of dollars of cameras, he can have fun watching you.
