Hello, I am running into an issue. I want to work as someone with an important position in the government when I am older. Right now I have a 5.0 gpa in high school, no criminal record, and am involved in helping my community. One thing that I am concerned about is that I may miss out on employment opportunities because my dad was sentenced to prison for 25 years under homocide charges, and my mom has done some time herself for shoplifting.

Your parents' criminal record is irrelevant to your job applications. Any employer who would use that as a criterion for hiring is someone you would not want to work for. You are not your parents. |

When I was in the Military (30 something yrs ago) I handled Top Secret/Flash material. My Grandfather was a member of the Fascist Party in Italy during WWII and it had NO bearing later on when I joined the U.S. Military. So, that just goes to show it doesn't matter what your parents or Grandparents have done. It's what you do that will matter. |
