Does anyone know what rights I have as a past patient to request medical records of treatment received, X-rays done, and payments received from an old chiropractor? I realize all states are different. I live in Tennessee. I attempted to find a statue regarding this issue, but apparently this task is not as easy as one would think. I did find one TN statute 63-2-101 entitled Release of Medical Records, but like any legal document it isn't that easy to understand. I am not even sure if this is the correct document and the most current. I thought maybe someone would have a website or suggestion as to how I can research this further and possibly find the most current statute which will provide my legal rights.

Now I'm not 100% sure, but I think you are entitled to a physical copy of your medical records other than in cases where you may have been deemed unfit to care for yourself (mentally not physically).
So, if you ask them they should provide it to you, if they don't, i would contact your local police via a non-emergency line and ask them, they should be able to tell you. If that doesn't help, contact a lawyer. |

You should have the right to any and all of your medical records. You should just have to request it (you might have to wait a day so they have time to print it and verify any information, but it should all be there). |

You could try contacting CCHR....Citizens Commission on Human Rights. They have a center in most places and a website at http://www.cchr.org and they deal with patients rights. |
