I gave it to him for his b-day less than a month ago. I wrote down the serial number. We think one of his "friends" stole it from him...my son is 12. Is there anything we can do to get it back?

that is an idea SFMC...but it was stolen from my house.

I'd say that the best course of action would be to put up missing flyers for the Ipod near where it went missing or where the suspected thief is likely to see it. Include the value and how much it meant to the owner. Offer a reward.
He might feel bad or want the reward and decide to turn it in claiming that he found it. If you want to be nasty about it, you could use it against him. Or just give him the reward and let it go. |

You THINK the other kid stole, but do you have any proof? If you do, I would talk to the police. But without any type of proof, it will be very difficult to get them to do anything about it.
Try talking to the kid's parents about it. Be civil, and try not to sound too accusing. Say something like. "I think your son may have mistakenly taken my son's iPod. Here is the serial number I wrote down when I bought it for him. Could you please check to see if this matches your son's iPod?" If you start accusing him of stealing, his parents can (and many do) get very defensive about it. |

well I would call the friend's parents and politely say my son has misplaced his IPOD and he thinks that your son may have it. This way you are trying not to start a huge fight and if it's not this friend they can get over the hump and be friends again, also the parents will be aware in a completely passive way instead of a defensive one...Good luck |

Ask parents; and ruin friendships.
Contact the police; who can't act without proof.
Any 12 year old who shows up with an Ipod should be noticed by his parents. Maybe "casually" let them know your kid's came up missing and see what happens. |

Absolutely but the thief is no Friend,if you have the documentation ,serial number go to the police and I.D the snake.but! you to let the officer that is going to follow up when is a good time to catch it in the snakes poses ion or other wise he is going to dump shortly after he is questioned and the next he hits he is really going to be snakey. but from what i learned from life experience is to tactfully get rid of this friend because his jealousy or envy will be there for ever |
