No death penalty for child molestors? Are you for or against the ruling?

No death penalty for child molestors? Are you for or against the ruling?

I have heard the argument that child molestors would be more likely to murder their victims with the death penalty on the table, to leave no evidence. I hear what they're saying, but aren't they already likely to do that? Their victims can usually speak and remember. And child molestors aren't exactly treated like first class citizens in prison, so they sure as hell don't want to go there.

Do you think that if child molestation was punishable by death people would recognize it as a crime just as heinous and disturbing as cold-blooded murder?

Correction: I did mean child rapists. Sorry for the discrepancy.

I think the death penalty should be an option for them without question. Although I also think another option may be to make child molestors' clothing in prison clearly say on front and back "child molestor".

I think that should bring forth suitable punishment as the far majority of inmates hate child molestors.

the law wasnt about molestors it was about child rapist. and i disagree with the ruling. if you rape a child you should be executed.

I have no pity for a child molester. I say put them to death. It makes no difference what the punishment for a crime is.People still commit the crimes. They are only thinking of their desires at the time. Not the punishment if they get caught.

i can see death in extreme cases. like torture.
but it will never happen, the courts wont even keep them in jail. they push them back into society, so they can do it again, as quickly as possible.

like the guy years ago, CA i think. raped her, whacked off her arms with an ax, left her to die, she lived.
NOT ONLY DID HE NOT GET DEATH, NOT ONLY DID THEy LET HIM OUT OF PRISON, NOT ONLY DID THEY FORCE THE POOR, RAPED ARMLESS CHILD TO LIVE IN FEAR OF THIS ANIMAL, BUT THEY WERE SHOCKED THAT EVERY TIME THEY TRIED TO PUT HIM IN AN APARTMENT SOME WHERE, THE LOCALS REVOLTED AND THREW HIM OUT.
THE WARDEN WAS SO UPSET HE LET THE POOR MAN LIVE IN THE PRISON, AND LEAVE EVERYDAY TO FIND WORK.
one must assume the warden sharpened his ax for him too.

Against.

but to make the punishment "proportional", they should be sentenced to life, in a minimum security prison, and forced to live in the general population.

No, they aren't more likely to kill without the death penalty. If they have nothing to lose, why set them free. Child molesters think they can get away with it or they wouldn't do it. If they though they would be killed they are more likely to not leave a witness.

They deserve death. The punishment they get from the inmates, doesn't equal the harm they did to that child. I unfortunately work in a law "enforcement" office. I had a case where the guy was on trial for an accessory(sp?) to first degree murder. They wanted him to have a slap on the wrist. That is the problem with all these anti-death activists. As the punishments become lighter, those that commit the crimes aren't going to take it as seriously, and will most definitely commit the same crime again.

I think child molestation and murder are in the same category. I don't think however that child molesters should get the death penalty if they didn't murder the victim. They don't get treated well in prison and I think that's punishment enough. They get a taste of their own medicine in prison and that's worse than death.

I believe an eye for an eye.

It was child rape but I am all for the death penalty for child rapists AND child murderers.

There are so many states (14) that don't even have the death penalty...so this was predestined to fail.

I personally think that people that rape children should be strung up by their you know whats and beaten to death. Slowly. It should be a slow and painful death. I'd kill someone if they ever did that to my kid.

If it were punishable by death, I don't think that would lead to more child murders. These guys are sick sick sick and evil anyway. They don't care. They should be more worried about what God is going to do to them.

They are the scum of the earth and should be executed.

Child molesters can not be rehabilitated. Why anyone would want to pay for them to live in prison is beyond me. I think they should be rallied up, put in a trench and stoned to death..really I do. I would gladly cast the first stone.

Krytox1a
I think the molesters are celebrating now!!!!!

well...don't act all enraged when the next case comes along......!

in a way we are encouraging it by been soft on them!

I think they should be castrated, not sentenced to death.

Hmm you make a good argument .i think though that it wouldnt help people recongize it as a crime. Instead it would probably just make people revolt against the government and in some cases it may acutally endanger the victims more. Like because you do go to court then what if the molestors family was there when he was sentenced to the death penelty and want revenge on the victim for telling. So i would have to say that i am against

From what I've read, with all the appeals, etc... it costs more for the death penalty than to keep the criminal in prison for life. I think the law was struck down b/c it allowed for any child molester to receive the death penalty instead of limiting which ones fit the profile for it. Could you imagine a 13 year old getting the death penalty for child molestation? It's a horrible crime, but not all molesters deserve death. Especially since some do recover or at least mitigate their problem to where they are not a threat to children. It's a scary topic regardless.

I don't think we should make child molestation (actually, the ruling was about child RAPE, there is a distinction) punishable by the death penalty so "people would recognize it as a crime just as heinous and disturbing as cold-blooded murder." I for one don't happen to agree. As HORRIBLE as I grant you that child rape is, the child is still alive to see another day, be with family, try to heal, etc. That is quite distinct from a murder victim.

The first paragraph of your question makes no sense. If a child rapist does murder the victim then he becomes eligible for the death penalty if the state has it for murder. I am one who made the argument that having the DP for child rapists is likely to increase the chances of a child rapist (who was NOT intending to murder his victim) also murdering the victim because if the potential punishments are the same, it's essentially saying "go ahead and kill the victim, what have you got to lose?"

I think life in prison for second offenders sounds fair but not death penalty. First offense death or life sentencing is a little harsh due to the fact children are capable of lying. I think death penalty is a very easy way out, my husband is a corrections officer and he has told me some pretty grusome stories about pedefiles in prisons, they get treated awful every single day. I think life in prison is a more painful and appropriate punishment.

Against, This kind of stuff should be an individual state policy issue. I mean think about this. Are they actual States? Or giant counties? They're treated like giant counties by the feds.

Reminds of of why Ireland said screw you we a'int signing that to the EU's Federal Government.

I support the ruling because America is becoming more and more Anti-death penalty. Its just what the people want. They want to move away from the death penalty. Many states have already gotten rid of the death penalty altogether.

ann
child abductors should definitely get the death penalty. Better yet, they should be hung where everyone can watch. They deserve no mercy.
